Just bought a recoil kit and would like some suggestions on which power supplies would work best with it.
The documentation suggests one that can "output 20-36 volts with a peak current of 5 amps. The best type would be a simple unregulated unit (...)"
Unfortunately, that's too broad a description for me. Can anybody suggest specific ones I could buy from an online source?
Thanks a bunch!
PS : 1st post here, woohoo! Please be gentle. :)

Just search 24v 5A power supply on Amazon or Ebay.
Mine looks like this:
I've used it for various gun and steering wheel projects over the years.
It's never gotten hot enough to kick the fan on.
You'll have to wire the power cable yourself (find at any home improvement store....or hack a grounded extension cord).

I've watched some clips on YT that show the difference between the recoil being used at 24V vs 36V and it's snappier at 36V, so I think I'd like to stick with that.
Would this power supply work?

I don't know what a peak current value is, but I do see 4.3 amps on this unit. Would that be OK or should I instead consider another unit?
Sorry for the newbie questions but I never had to buy one of these before.

Anybody???

Yeah, that should do it as long as you don't plan to add a second solenoid (2 guns).
But if you want my advice, I would take a look at "aliexpress". You can buy a power supply with higher amperage for much less (I did buy mine there and it works flawlessly).

Sounds great but would you be able to give me a couple of examples?
I don't think I'll add a 2nd gun but you never know, I guess.
I'm lost as to which number can go higher. Is it OK to go for a PSU that goes beyond 5 amps? Is it OK to get one beyond 36 volts? I don't know which one would be acceptable to go beyond the recommended range.
How many amps and volts would I need to get a 2-gun setup?
Lastly, how could I wire it so both work?
Sorry for the many questions, but again, I'm a newbie and am trying to educate myself about this. There's unfortunately not a lot of easily found info about my specific questions out there.

Hi Strat - The one I used was a 36v 10a power supply. I'm only using it for one gun but its definitely capable of running another one.
Ebay number - 351204618122
Basically, the voltage will control the kick the gun gives. 20v is ok, 36v is awesome. A single gun needs 5a peak so going to 10a covers 2 guns firing at the same time. I originally tried a 3a with a single gun and it kept cutting out (ie solenoid wouldn't fire after a few times and I'd have to reboot before it started working again).
Hope this helps

Your gun will only draw as much current as it needs. If the power supply can supply more than 5 Amps this doesn't matter as the solenoid will only take 5 Amps. The voltage however, is another story... I wouldn't go beyond 36v if you don't want to fry your solenoid. ;)
I think that for a 2 gun setup, a 36v 10a PSU like that from markc74 would be OK. You can also add a thermal fuse, just to be on the safe side...
What kind of recoil-kit do you have ?

Hi Mark!
This most certainly helps! Although it doesn't look like that auction you linked to is available anymore, I found one on Amazon that seems cheap and promising (especially since the reviews for both the product and seller are good). The only caveat is that the amperage is 9.7 ; not 10 amps. If this is OK, I'll get that one.

The AimTrak recoil kit is the one I have. I couldn't find any other ones to use and that one seemed to get good reviews anyway.
I don't know what a thermal fuse is. Would you care to please explain what that is (in this context) and what it would do? How would I install one?
Thanks again! :)

If you have an Aimtrak recoil kit you don't need to bother with anything else, just follow Ultimarc's instructions...
Btw that PSU looks good to me.

Hope everything will work out!
In the meantime, I ordered that power supply. :)
Thanks for everything, guys!
