Title: i-pac not recognised after power-down
Post by: thefox on February 13, 2015, 07:42:49 am
Hi

Its been awhile since I last posted on here, but I wonder if someone could help me out please?

I have a strange problem with the i-pac 2, which is connected via USB to the PC inside my bartop cab.

If we are happily playing on mame, then shut down/switch off the system, then switch it back on again, everything works fine.

But if I shut down, then disconnect the power from the mains by removing the plug or swtiching off the socket, then switch everything back on, the green light comes on the i-pac, but the PC fails to recognise any of the controls, as if the i-pac has gone dead.

If I then briefly disconnect the USB from the PC (or from the ipac end), and plug it back in, everything suddenly works fine again.

The cab is using an old windows xp system, which boots to mame. But I have tried it on my windows 7 laptop as well, with and without mame, and the same problem occurs. Before I spend on a new i-pac, any ideas please ??

hi, i know this isnt exactly a solution to your specific problem but i would advise when using a PC,  after shutting down windows you should never switch off the power at the mains, because then the PC will then have to use the battery on the mainboard to stop itself losing any specific BIOS settings. you should always leave the pc connected to the mains even when powered down so that the PC is able to use a small amount of volts from the mains instead of having to use the battery.

Make sure you have the usb cable ipac plugged in to the correct socket on the ipac.

Thanks for your help guys. The cable is definitely in the right port on the ipac. Ive been unplugging it cos the wife insists on it as a safety thing when the house in empty for significant periods of time. She doesn't quite trust the safety of my electrical handywork inside the cab, and quite frankly I don't blame her !  ;)

Looks like I may have to get another ipac.
