Hey guys, I know this is probably slightly off topic, but I've been a lurker for a long time and am a few months from being a first-time builder and probably spamming you guys with all sorts of questions about how to make my horrible build functional! However:
My grandfather is a woodworker, and as a hobby makes stuff (trying to be as vague as possible so we're sure this is not any sort of weird spam or advertising... not related to our hobby, but I'm totally gonna have him help out with my build because he's clearly some sort of prodigy when it comes to working with wood! He can probably make my terrible MAME idea look beautiful!) He's asked me to help him set up a site to try to sell some of his stuff online. I know some of the more prolific members of this community have set up personal sites or even run small businesses selling their stuff... do any of you folks have any recommendations as for how to go about this, or recommendations for who to work with to set up a storefront or to process payments? My only online sales experience is through ebay and paypal really.
I apologize if this is in the wrong forum or whatnot, but I know some folks here have some experience and despite lurker status I honestly thought this would possibly be a great resource for this sort of information. Any insight? As said, if this is the wrong forum or if this is somehow frowned upon I apologize and feel free to delete the hell out of this post.

Back when I ran a small craft business I used a cart package called ZenCart. Back then it was pretty simple to use and very customizable. Best of all it is FOSS - which means free. If you want to see a decent example of ZenCart in action, check out Groovy Game Gear (http://groovygamegear.com).

I use opencart for my site, free, easy to customize

Does he have any kind of existing website now? Will you need to create that as well? Any experience at all making websites?

You can setup WooCommerce in Wordpress pretty easily. Also look at selling on Etsy.

He doesn't, but I have some experience on that side of things. Some... Absurdly far from an expert, but I've cooked up enough stuff before and I'm comfortable that I can stumble my way to some level of success on that front.
Thanks so much for the suggestions already folks, I'm gonna check some of the stuff out and see what we can work with :applaud:. Etsy is actually a pretty brilliant idea for the (I'm guessing) simplicity of it!

My mom has a website for soap making supplies, and has always used ZenCart. Really, really customizable. I agree with that recommendation.
