Title: LED - What buttons & joystick to buy?
Post by: lacanian on February 12, 2015, 05:31:31 am
I have spent considerable time researching LED control panel products. The issue is most of the time they are old threads and things can change a lot in a few years.

Whats your recommendation for a LED joystick, PCB controller and push buttons?
Please let me know which you own, which you have tried, and why you made your purchasing decesion.

Thanks.

I used GroovyGameGear to buy all of my LED items.  I'm not a huge fan of lit up buttons (I actually lit up small plexiglass panels for each player in my build) but I will say I think these are really cool and fall into that new category you mentioned.

My $$ went to Ultimarc. I emailed paradisearcadeshop.com with some questions and didn't hear a reply. Andy replied very quickly (even considering the different time zones).

I bought the PACLed64 and the RGB Ultralux buttons. If anyone wants a review of them let me know.

I also bought the i-pac ultimate for a friend's vewlix cabinet.

Look at options from major arcade part retailers. See what items match your needs. Try one before you buy a ton.

Do you want 4-way? 8-way? Is switching important? Do you want led? Concave or convex buttons? What's your intentions of this machine? The more narrowed down, the better of a machine you will likely have.

I'm sure there are a few more.

My FLYNNS project used PCBs from Ultimarc, LEDs and Buttons from Paradise arcade and a ton of Molex. I devised my own joystick lighting, as I felt LED let ball tops were tacky and overdone. This way I can use whatever stick I want, now or in the future.

If I were to do it all over I'd go: Ultimarc Ultimate I/O PCB, same LEDs from Paradise, and buy 2 times the buttons from GroovyGameGear. Reason is, GGG sells a clear version of the CLASSX Leaf button (not shown online), but I would have to buy black ones as well to get the same black plunger look I have now.  I love my IL buttons I got from Paradise, but I like Randy's CLASSX leafswitch ones much better (for the leafs) and was kinda bummed when he told me he had a clear version. Personaly not a fan of his new Eclipse ones, but that's just me. Personaly not a fan of the Howler, even though it's origins are from here in my home town.

Tons more information on my methods are avalible in my FLYNN's Arcade build thread, (link below in my signature). If you have questions about it don't hesitate to ask.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I totally agree with you on LED joysticks.
