Title: Pressing Fire Button results in Beeps....
Post by: Richardgregory on February 01, 2015, 05:09:48 pm
I'm experiencing this weird problem - doesn't matter what my front end is as I tried switching it.

As soon as I start pressing Player 1 Fire button (button 1, which translates to CTRL key in MAME config), I experience beeping sounds, coming out from the speaker, but after maybe a few key presses it goes away and all is good.  Ie.  So when loading up Galaga, whenever I press the fire button to shoot, I hear beeps drowning out the Galaga fire sound.

Anyone have any ideas what might be the issue?

Thanks.

You have "sticky keys" enabled in windows (accessibility options).  You need to disable the sounds when the CTRL key is hit multiple times.  Read more here:  https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070630190946AAq28Co

This is exactly right. While on the windows desktop hit control 5 times and the screen should pop up.  I turn off all sticky keys .

Let me add to this: it's a really bad idea to use modifier keys (shift, ctrl, alt) as keys for games. You'll run into problems besides sticky keys.

On my I-PAC and J-PACs, I rebind the keys to other things to avoid these issues. Also, the Enter key is a better start button than "1" is, too.

Thanks folks - I had thought I had Sticky Keys turned off, but I hadn't.
