Title: second video in mala/
Post by: tony.silveira on January 27, 2015, 12:34:58 am
hi guys,

when designing a layout in mala, it is possible to have multiple video boxes, video 1, video 2, etc.

but i see no where within the mala options how to assign the directory for video 2.

any ideas?

thanks

I never have used it, but you could try with definable objects.

Greetings

thanks for the reply but that seems to be for pics only.  and, only for pics that are named like the rom (secondary snapshot, box art, etc.).

i'm looking to play a second video that is completely random and not associated with the rom.

I don't understand where nor when you want to play a second video.

Video 2 doesn't change when you scroll through the list.  It only loops one single video.
You can also use it for animated .gif

The path to the one video it plays is set in Mala layout.

It's been a while, but I think you just add Video 2 from the drop down menu, then double click on the video 2 box to set the path.
(similar to how you set the background image)

I tinkered with having an animated GIF on each one of my layouts.  It worked well for that, except for not being able to have transparency.
I vaguely remember trying to have the entire background as a video, but I don't think it worked.

thanks, i will dig a bit more when i get home.

as for why a second video, i am having a menu layout designed for me and for mame, it will look like my arcade machine.  my machine has a flip down screen between the speakers and i thought it'd be cool if this second screen within the menu was playing random video game commercials.

UPDATE:  thanks for the tip on video 2, it worked just as you said.  Now who do I have to pay to get the ability for video 2 to randomly pick videos from a folder instead of one static video (the way that screen saver works in Mala)?  :)

@tony.silveira, perhaps you could make a script using Autohotkey to play a random video in that second window.
Perhaps.

The problem is that the path is probably stored in the .lyt file which isn't as accessible, instead of mala.ini.
At least I think so.  Check the mala.ini.
If it were in the .ini file, you could have an ahk script that writes a different video name to the path each time.

If that isn't an option, your best bet is probably to have a script that renames random files to the name specified in the path set in layout.

I only provide the concept, can't help with the script.  :lol

i posted a video of my new mala layout with the second video playing.  i only have one commercial looping unfortunately but this shows the layout mirroring what my machine looks like (and you can see the new keys to the left all lit up pretty like.  its pretty much mounted with the hinge that works, just need to figure out the automatic retraction when not in use.
