Title: Anyone Know of a Mario Kart Type Game for MAME?
Post by: lisowskikevin on January 24, 2015, 08:03:15 pm
Hey Everyone,

I'm aware of Mario Kart's speed problems working in the N64 emu so I am wondering if anyone has heard of an alternative type of game for MAME? All the research I have done says that Mario Kart runs too fast when you play 4 players.

My little ones would really like this type of game so I am open to suggestions for other emulators as well. I know Sonic has a Mario Kart type game but thats for Xbox 360 I think. Anyone tried to get that one working?

Anyway, Thanks for any help the board members can give.

Kevin

The best kart racer alternative i can think of would be Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed. You can get it for windows, it's a really fun game!

That's not supported by MAME yet, is it?

Diddy Kong is a racing game on n64.
It runs fine on my ouya (android game console)
I don't play it a lot, only with the kids when their in the mood for some "old stuff" lol.
But it doesn't glitch as far as I can tell and the kids don't complain.

Diddy Kong racing is a blast.  We used to play that a lot when my kids were little.

Me too.

For me it depends on the type of play.

Mario Kart 64 Battle > Super Mario Kart Battle
Mario Kart 64 Racing < Super Mario Kart Racing

wow thanks for the incredible responses everyone! I have a 7 and 5 year old that I really think would LOVE the Mario Kart type games so I appreciate all of the input.

My only other question would be is Mario Kart 64 the only one that has speed issues? Like will other 4 player games play all fast like Mario Kart 64?

thanks!

Kevin

Daddy Kong racing is way more fun. I've never had a problem with Mario kart 64 running slow on project 64. Runs great to me...

Even with 4 players? That's when I am told that it gets all screwy.

Super Tux Kart is a great Mario kart like game, plus it's free.
It runs on Windows and Linux. (I think different downloads though).
Cool game. Not sure about 4 players, I know two, and Im sure 4 if you have that many USB gamepads plugged in.
Screen is cut in half for two players, not sure how a quartered screen would look.
