Don't worry, you'll stop when you run out of space, or the wife threatens to leave.  Until then, knock yourself out :)

Good find, BTW.

Mine did. I just do it under the radar. She says if I put as much time into our relationship as I put in arcades, our marriage would be perfect. Nah I say she would just think I was a Pu$$y, but that's me

I don't normally like that style of cocktail cabinet but I have to say I like the look of that one.  All that black really pops.  Nice haul.

Not saying you don't have a problem but that does remind me of Moon Patrol.

Here's the real problem. I saw this and was like: "Oh, Moon Patrol"

Congrats on the new cocktail! I can't wait to see what you do with it.

I think this is a very addicting hobby. As I work on my mame machine I have been thinking more and more about a couple dedicated cabs. I have even caught myself searching craigslist and kijiji and even ebay for dedicated Galaga machines even though I have zero budget for it right now.

I wonder how many hard core dedicated collectors started by building a multi game machine first.   ???

Many of the ones I've met in person and online started that way, myself included. In a lot of ways, you learn to gain a better appreciation of the dedicated games.

In fact you could carve the popcorn pattern over and over into the sides and fill it in with a ball point pen  ;D

I'm wondering what it originally was. It looks like an Atari cocktail to me, but some stuff on it doesn't match up with the Atari's I've seen. The mechs are different, as is that "vent band". Interesting.

I've been thinking that same thing. I don't know enough about this yet to be able to determine what's what simply by the pictures. So I'm kinda excited about what I'll find. I've been givin assurances it's working quite well, and a little history of the machine itself by the owner. But he knew nothing about arcades, it's just been sitting in his shop for a few years and wanted to get rid of it now that he's turning his shop into a Paint shop he doesn't want it damaged. I told him I'd give it a good home.

I think those are Asahi Seiko mechs arnt they?

That's what they look like. The control panels are Atari-style, the mechs Nintendo. If the monitor layout is original, then it was a horizontal game. Should be fun.

That is a nice cocktail. I definitely want to find one of these for myself and turn it into a vertical display for a dedicated Hat Trick (one of the greatest vs. hockey games in the arcade).  We used to have little tournaments with that game, and developed a few cool techniques/moves like rebound goals, spin-o-rama's, and dump-and-chase plays. It gets really competitive against people that know what they're doing to get around the defending player, as well as "lock them up" from forcing the play to switch them from paying attention to the skater to the goalie.

But I love the aesthetic of this cabinet because of the more slim-form of the midway/bally style woodgrain cocktails.

Got it for $50 below his asking price.

Just wondering.  I don't usually ask, but I passed on a DK cocktail that was priced at $250 or so. It wasn't  nearly in that shape though.

Yeah i was thinking that, but i spent the last half hour looking at pictures of the SEGA's, but this thing is either A. Heavily modified. or B. not a SEGA.

No no no, it's not a SEGA, it's a modified Taito cocktail.

Looks very similar to this Missile Command one:  http://www.classicarcadegaming.com/forums/index.php?topic=4154.0 (http://www.classicarcadegaming.com/forums/index.php?topic=4154.0)

After I'm done the DK Ultimate I'll gut this and use the parts for something like a dedicated Mario Bros. Cabaret.

When life hands you a cocktail, you don't make a cabaret... Enjoy the cocktail!

I'm afraid it won't be able to live in the living room, den, or man cave here just due to the faint smell of petrol. I'm sure that will dissipate in time, but for now it will have to stay in with my tools in my shop room, (it's a big house).

I've had similar problems (especially with smoke scented items). I've found that cold air seems to suck the stink out of them.  If you have a garage/shed/etc you might want to try leaving it out there for a few weeks while it is still cold.  I discovered this by accident actually and I've repeated it a few times over the years.

I've had good luck wiping the cabinet down with Fabuloso.  The cabinet will stink like Fabuloso for a bit but after a while all smells go away.

cool little find. It would be interesting to nail down what it was and possibly restore it, but it looks like it's been hacked up more than a young college girl in an 80s horror movie. Regardless of the route you take to "recovery" of this, i'm always interested in the projects you undertake. I'll be following this one.

I'm getting the bug as well. I haven't even finished plans for my MAME cab, and i'm already trying to find other cabs to restore and a dedicated Taito cab to make a dedicated Rastan cab.

*cough* YOTS *cough*

Neat little cab. Might be useful as a trade if you found the right collector (vector guys are interesting folks and you might find one with a Space Duel).

Star Castle was BW with a coulored overlay. Original of which would be harder to find than a colour vector, but might be fairly simple to repro (if you want to find/repair a 13" BW vector). EDIT: I see now that the colour vector was for Space Duel ... must have been comprehensionally-impaired when I posted.
