Title: Modern Arcade/Gaming Table
Post by: Boomslang on January 14, 2015, 04:20:02 am
Hi Guys,

Ive been working on this little project for awhile now and thought id share it a little. I don't have great skills at building so I took my time to try get it looking okay, im happy enough with how its looking now :)

Initially there was going to be 2 tables with a friend but he pulled out so I had to continue the work by myself, I wanted it to be a more modern looking table rather then a standard cocktail as It will be in my lounge, so I made a design for a modern table with the ability for sliding shelfs at each end which will slide out with joystick/buttons for mame cocktail gaming. I also decided I wanted the ability for the monitor to raise up for standard gaming from ps4/xbox one etc while sitting at the couch so I got a bracket which managed to do all I wanted. I also put a 27" LG 3D Passive Monitor in it so me and a friend can play dual play games eg (fullscreen for each instead of splitscreen). After giving it a black paint job I got some glass cut out for the top and very bottom and added a glass shelf too. Heres some pic of the progress over time. Hope you enjoy

That's cool! Is the monitor mechanism motorized?

No unfortunately not. I did look into it and even attempted to make a way to raise the monitor via an actuator and a bracket I made but it didn't work. I would love to make it motorized at some point in the future if I can work out a good way of raising it

Nice work, are you in NZ? That could make a pretty decent cocktail unit with some controls installed.

Cool idea, I like the idea of a flip up cockail table. Where do you grab/push to flip up the monitor, in the drawer?

Yea I'm in NZ. And yes basically open drawer and push monitor up. It's pretty easy to raise it

Nice job!  Have you considered just putting tinted glass on top of the table and leaving the monitor flat like a cocktail table?  If you're set on having it tilt up though, you can install an HDMI port on the back so that it can interface into that nice HDTV in the background (pedestal setup).   :applaud:

Either way congrats, it looks sharp.

Forget the arcade stuff- I'd like to commend you on the craftsmanship on that table, especially the paint job!

Thanks guys!

I do have some glass to go over monitor but I haven't put it on and I'm not sure I will yet. I've ordered Sanwa joystick and buttons to put into the sliding shelves soon. I made the decision to have the monitor raise so I won't be putting glass over it all as I like to play or watch movies while sitting at the couch while the Mrs can watch her crap on big tv haha.

In the end, a normal cocktail table doesn't generally suit a lounge and I wanted a table which would look ok and hopefully I've done that
