Title: Chase HQ 2K
Post by: monkeychunkuk on January 11, 2015, 03:56:23 pm
So after to picking up this old Chase HQ cab  i thought i could restore it,i soon revised my idea it was to much work
to get this woodwork even close to ship,Also i would be limted to one game

So i thought id build my own version It's basically restore/rework of the cab I picked up but i want o make my own
new version along with artwork
HERE WE GO

I'm cloning piece by piece so let take the can apart

Side off

Quick sketch

Both sides cut at once
(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/12/19/edea6ea7c18807165e9c524c2a51829c.jpg)

Not a bad match
(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/12/19/6e4613c0324329492e3a550bc9073b3e.jpg)

Some of the others panels like coin door
(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/12/19/c083e9ceeba2554683a5d8f360dff176.jpg)

It fits
(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/12/19/5723a858a9a65a8a1676151a11a49795.jpg)

The original back door is 2mm to big due to my cuts bit allowing for the saw blade
So I used my router to match other pieces

Test for the wheel
(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/12/19/bfc9f8fad03da3af6c554dc211a379f4.jpg)

Old and new side by side
(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/12/19/2c328f6c8051d99786ec930d79021fb0.jpg)

Not bad for a afternoons work

I then dropped the pedals off to a friend that has a polishing wheel and I think they came up pretty nice

Before

Wheel man
so after researching my options for using the original wheel works out to expensive to buy a  optipac board £30 and after setting it up I would be limited for options

So I glanced on gumtree and picked up this bargain locale to me a Logitech g force steering wheel for £20

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/Mobile%20Uploads/BB316B5C-95FC-4AA6-AD03-5E8A9C43AE12.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/imlived/media/Mobile%20Uploads/BB316B5C-95FC-4AA6-AD03-5E8A9C43AE12.jpg.html)

So I stripped the original wheel down and boxed it up

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/Mobile%20Uploads/53172609-F61D-4822-98D5-7D3A8D5A3613.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/imlived/media/Mobile%20Uploads/53172609-F61D-4822-98D5-7D3A8D5A3613.jpg.html)

I open up my new wheel to see how to mount it onto the old control panel
 (http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/Mobile%20Uploads/760C725B-B3CA-4B22-AA2A-EF9024814A2C.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/imlived/media/Mobile%20Uploads/760C725B-B3CA-4B22-AA2A-EF9024814A2C.jpg.html)

I'm sure I'll figure a way

Now to try and use the original pedal
The original pedals use a 30k variable resistor so I thought I was doomed until I played around and found the new one swapped perfectly

Old
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/Mobile%20Uploads/9CC1A8C3-4F61-4EF3-9D7C-782EAFBA8550.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/imlived/media/Mobile%20Uploads/9CC1A8C3-4F61-4EF3-9D7C-782EAFBA8550.jpg.html)

New
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/Mobile%20Uploads/10583F3D-E086-4F16-8C1B-EBE2C2C53F54.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/imlived/media/Mobile%20Uploads/10583F3D-E086-4F16-8C1B-EBE2C2C53F54.jpg.html)

The brake isn't a simple swap out I think I'll use the original on/off microswitch
And find a way to connect it to the wheel

I sprayed the control panel and did a loose test fit
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/Mobile%20Uploads/85E01CB7-184C-4327-8A9C-B6FF766D7582.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/imlived/media/Mobile%20Uploads/85E01CB7-184C-4327-8A9C-B6FF766D7582.jpg.html)

Chrome T-molding and carbon fibre control panel ?
Red T-molding and carbon fibre control panel?
or black Chrome T-molding and custom artwork control panel?

and do i add guns to this cab?

Custom cp would be slick if you arent on a budget. Think you need something to break up all the black.  :dunno

and do i add guns to this cab?

Only if you want it to do dual duty.
Might not be a bad idea if you had a separate menu or front-end for it.

I really wanted to get Lucky & Wild working on my driving cab, but never did succeed.
The game originally had positional guns (think analog joysticks).
My Act Labs guns wouldn't track like positional guns.
AimTraks would work from a distance, but while using the driving controls you are too close for an IR gun to work.

Speaker time today

So I pulled these surround speakers apart to use with the £5 sub that I picked up

Is that to many speakers ?

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/Mobile%20Uploads/9BA71223-0CF3-4959-999D-02892631F841.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/imlived/media/Mobile%20Uploads/9BA71223-0CF3-4959-999D-02892631F841.jpg.html)

All fitted with tweeters too
 (http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/Mobile%20Uploads/9A19E18E-7EBB-4E8C-9980-AB09BFA263AD.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/imlived/media/Mobile%20Uploads/9A19E18E-7EBB-4E8C-9980-AB09BFA263AD.jpg.html)

I also fitted so T-molding (thus isn't new stuff and when I get the cash I may replace it as its in a bad state.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/Mobile%20Uploads/2425A810-BCDB-42BD-9191-4D6D337A1163.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/imlived/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2425A810-BCDB-42BD-9191-4D6D337A1163.jpg.html)

And then I had to figure a way to fix the wheel in place at the right angle

 (http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/Mobile%20Uploads/E53DC342-9CD3-4D46-B5CC-19FDAC08595C.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/imlived/media/Mobile%20Uploads/E53DC342-9CD3-4D46-B5CC-19FDAC08595C.jpg.html)

So I fixed it in place with long bolt and tightened everything up
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/Mobile%20Uploads/6FA701A5-0E30-46CC-B16F-AA696FBE5AF4.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/imlived/media/Mobile%20Uploads/6FA701A5-0E30-46CC-B16F-AA696FBE5AF4.jpg.html)

And I put the glass in place
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/Mobile%20Uploads/B1B1FFC0-AC2F-4F0F-9563-D66484F5858A.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/user/imlived/media/Mobile%20Uploads/B1B1FFC0-AC2F-4F0F-9563-D66484F5858A.jpg.html)

My only worry is that I didn't place the wheel back on correct cog and when I turn it on the motors gonna kick in and rip itself apart!

Now I am thinking of changing the Chase HQ theme and making it "need for speed"

A Chase HQ cabinet demands flashing lights in the marquee :) (which is possible with MameHooker and so on..) Anyway, a great job so far.

Yup im on it ill be fitting Blue and Red LEDs and trying to work my way through MameHooker and making circuit that i can also override and make them flash at the press of a button.

Now back to todays work ive wired the marquee lights and fited the monitor and finished the back panels completely
Just need to find a place where i can get orginal Chase HQ artwork so i can make my own?

and i tested a few games, the Lg wheels is not set up so the force feedback etc didn't work but it was fun to play
untill the end when it just stopped working and flashing : (
and ive started to wire my menu buttons up

By the way, using some cheap SSR's (Solid State Relay) make it possible to use real bulbs, but that is probably not any news to you...

I used them in my restoration since the original driver board was missing:

Very impressive - I want one! The wrap is similar to the Mala layout I'm using too - looks great! So, where did you get the carbon fibre wrap?

Scrap that - just about EVERYWHERE it seems! 3M stuff on Amazon for a start :-)
