So, I finally have a bit of time to work on my cab and thought I'd get the steering wheels and star wars yoke wired up. I have the Atari steering wheels wired to an Optipac and the cursor moves around in Windows, which is good. But, when I go into MAME, I am unable to use the wheel as an input. My actual mouse, registers just fine.
I've verified my INI file so that I have:
mouse 0
multimouse 1
I've set everything under the CORE INPUT AUTOMATIC ENABLE OPTIONS to mouse. But, I think the only ones that need to be set to mouse are the dial_device and mouse_device. But, for grins I've tried setting each option in turn as mouse, to no avail.
I've used versions of mame from 0145 to 0156 and no love. Am I missing something obvious here? I swear I had this working in the past while messing with the Optipac. The Optipac still plays well with Mame (direcet vs raw input), right..?
Anywho, if you have a solution or a question, let me know! It's Miller time!

Bumping this up, by asking if anyone is using an OptiPac with a "newer" version of mame... say 0150+ ? Also, if you are, what speed does the mouse move in windows via the OptiPac?
Mine moves much slower than with an actual mouse. I didn't think this was an issue, but just mentioning it incase.

Just following up incase this helps anyone else. I don't think my issue is "solved" per se, but I did get it working. Apparently, the wheel/optipac combination only moves the mouse at a much lower rate than an/my physical mouse. So, although it is able to move the mouse cursor in windows it isn't "fast" enough for mame to recognize movement (I'm assuming it has to do with speed). So, if I have the wheel on the X-axis and I configure mame to via the mouse to use the mouse x-axis as the analog input, then mame will see the wheel spinning while in the game, but not at config time.
