Title: NBA 2K? Or FIFA PC Games
Post by: fr_303 on January 06, 2015, 08:10:43 am
Hi
Is anyone running any NBA 2K version or any Fifa  PC games?
I am struggling with NBA 2K14 I can not get it to work with 2 players and would like to get a version of Fifa working but have a feeling I will be in the same boat.

Just wondering if anyone has ever had success installing and playing these games on there Cabs?

You pretty much need xbox controllers.

I installed NBA2k14 on my cab which uses hacked xbox fightpads as an interface, but still couldn't play it because of the controls.
I don't recall the specifics, but a joystick and 7 buttons (+start and back) wasn't enough for the game to work properly.

I also had high hopes for Madden '08, but it requires the mouse for menu navigation.

I couldn't see playing those kind of games on arcade controls, having played them on gamepads all those years. Just wouldn't feel natural.  ;D

Seems ok to me.  ;D
(If I could just get them to work the way I want)

It sucks that they quit releasing Madden for PC.
'08 has a solid online community that releases updated rosters and player pics frequently though.
The download version on Amazon is DRM free.

I had issues using the no-cd crack with my disc version.
IIRC, mounting a disc image in Daemon Tools set off some type of protection that kept the game from launching.
All is good with the Amazon download version.

Blood Bowl has been on my watch list for a very long time.
Do not know if it would work on a cab or not.

Yeah, I've seen those cabs, but never tried playing them. I need a couch to plop on to in order to really play Madden.

Unfortunately, I don't think it will.  I looked at it during the summer of harvest sale on steam.  It really looks like a RPG set on a football field.  Here  (http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/216890/manuals/BBCE_Manual_INT.pdf?t=1407400637)is the manual, but it doesn't seem like it would lend itself to a cabinet.

The keys are on the back page

the decent games require complex control systems, lots of holding down multiple buttons, analog directions, analog sprinting etc. (although afaik the latest versions don't use analog buttons for the regular buttons)

as already stated, unless your control panel is an xbox pad, it's not going to be suitable.

the actual arcade football games were much more shallow (and IMHO one of the reasons the Dreamcast really suffered, nobody wanted those at home)

I actually enjoyed NFL2K on the dreamcast. It was easy enough for me to play. Icons of what controls show up over the players to pass to. Genious!

Complex games don't always require complex controls. iOS has proved this theory. Some games suck because they are hard to control, while others seem natural and easy to play. It requires thought and intuitiveness to go into a game.

Define decent.

You are probably best off sticking with emulated arcade games because of the controls.

Capcom Sports plays ok in MAME, but might be too cartoony for you.

You might be happy with the virtua striker series running on Demul or Model 3 emulator, but it will require a powerful pc to run.

If you want up to date rosters and modern graphics, there probably isn't an option if FIFA doesn't work.  (I don't know, haven't tried it, but I assume the controls are too complicated based on other modern PC games)
Edit: based on the instructions, the controls look waaaay too complicated for an arcade control panel http://d2ro3qwxdn69cl.cloudfront.net/manuals/fifa-15-manuals_PC_uk.pdf (http://d2ro3qwxdn69cl.cloudfront.net/manuals/fifa-15-manuals_PC_uk.pdf)

IMO, there is a serious opportunity there because of the lack of football games for PC.
The footage shows xbox360 controller buttons with play selection and passing similar to Madden.

The big question for me is whether they make up some use for every damn stick and button available on the controller.
It would be nice if they just stuck to the four face buttons.

I noticed that some on Facebook asked directly what controls were used and if it could be played using blitz arcade controls.

I know it didn't work for Gauntlet, but if people expressed their desire for a 4 button/arcade mode, it *might* happen.

I always thought that MFL looked cool.  Still haven't played it.
