Welcome to the 4th Annual BYOAC User Choice Awards Nomination Thread!
We are back to recognize the most innovative, well executed, original, and fun builds completed in 2014 across a broad range of categories. Feel free to nominate more than one project and don't feel obligated to nominate something for every category. Your participation is paramount to having another great event so let us know what knocked your socks off.
As you may well know the UCAs are administered by a board of forum members to ensure that the BYOAC UCA process remains above reproach. This year's board is again chaired by Yotsuya, DaOld Man, BobA, DrVenture, and Le Chuck who will use the UCA account to open UCA threads and post any administrative actions. UCA is a non voting entity.
The Rules: There are a few minor tweaks this year based on feedback from the community from the last few years of doing this so give'em a quick read whydontchya?
- No user can win the same category two years running. Ms. America rules apply, you have to pass the tiara. That doesn't mean users can't nominate a project deserving of praise, they just shouldn't get bent out of shape when it doesn't make the final voting thread.
- To be eligible a project must have been POSTED as completed between 01 JAN 2014 and before 31 DEC 2014. We get it, sometimes things don't get posted on time, that's okay, we do this every year. If it was that good it'll still be that good next time.
- Users are NOT allowed to nominate or second their OWN projects. Nominations should come from the community at large.
- Categories must have at least 3 valid confirmed (thirded) entries to remain categories. Those that don't will be awarded honorable mentions at the end of the nomination window.
- Categories with 6 or more entries may be split up into sub categories providing that the breakdown allows two complete new categories. For example: fullsize builds could be broken down into Uprights and Other or Uprights and Cocktails depending on what has been nominated. This is not mandatory and will be based on the consensus of the board.
- Any UCA board member recommended and confirmed for a category will recuse himself of having anything to do with that category.
- Rule #7...THERE IS NO RULE #7!
- Decisions on whether or not something is a valid entry (fuzzy dates, versions, completeness) will be made by the consensus of the board and once published are not subject to a flame war.
- Voting will be conducted in the same automated manner as every year, board members can vote, and their role is purely administrative.
To nominate please reply with this format:
Category: Name of Build or Project: Link
<img from build thread is welcome, please size to no more than 300px wide to keep the thread readable.>
<optional description of why nominated for that category>
Any project nominated three time (by different users ;)) will make it to the voting threads which will open NLT 01 FEB 2014. That thread will close on 01 MARCH 2014 so make sure and scrub through this last year's builds then put up the links that you think progressed the hobby, just make sure whatever you're nominating was "complete" after 01 JAN 2014 and before 31 DEC 2014.
Here's a list of this year's categories and a brief definition:
Fullsize Dedicated - Uprights, cockpits, V-Pins, Racers, and showcase cabs that demonstrate outstanding theme, style, balance, and execution designed to play a specific title with a very limited playlist.
Fullsize Multi - Uprights, cockpits, V-Pins, Racers, and showcase cabs that demonstrate outstanding theme, style, balance, and execution designed to play a range of games over multiple genre and/or with an expansive playlists.
Small Dedicated - Bartops, Cocktails, Minis, Micros, Jukes, and cabs more easily defined by what they aren't, cab in furniture, cab disguised as something else that demonstrate outstanding theme, style, balance, and execution designed to play a specific title with a very limited playlist.
Small Multi - Bartops, Cocktails, Minis, Micros, Jukes, and cabs more easily defined by what they aren't, cab in furniture, cab disguised as something else that demonstrate outstanding theme, style, balance, and execution designed to play a range of games over multiple genre and/or with an expansive playlists..
Pedestals - Breakout category from non-standards. Builds defined as a stand alone unit containing controls and gaming hardware that uses separate monitor for gameplay.
Hardware - custom built or modified controls, lighting, products, or other physical cab elements that are new or improved this past year and advanced the hobby.
Software - this can be a piece of code or specialty tool user written or created this past year that created or improved emulation capability or generally increased software flexibility to include software hacks.
Thanks for taking the time to nominate your favorite(s) and help us document the best projects of 2014!

One full size nomination would have to be markc74's Blip cab. I nominate it for the artwork alone.

I'd like to nominate ChanceCK's Flynn's Arcade in the full-size upright category.

This project is a great example of how to do a 4-player LCD right. The attention to detail is also off the charts!

This project is a great example of where our hobby can co-exist with dedicated cabinet collecting. I love how he created something that looks authentic but is one of a kind. The artwork in-particular is very impressive.

+1 for Yot's cab and Grippies bar top. Both clean machines.
-
I think Artwork would be a nice additional category...
-
I nominate fr_303's Street Fighter Cab in the Fullsize cabs:

jaharr01's Jacie's Arcade for the Fullsize cabs
Seconded
I like the different, but correct looking coin door and artwork.

I fourth or fifth the Macross cabinet. That was an interesting project.
Others that stick out in my mind this year:
Beat Em Up X:
Clint:
Castlevania pedestal:
EDIT: Oops. Didn't read the date.
Severdhed's TMNT pedestal, especially because several people have been inspired by it:

Malenko's 90s Midway orgasm style hockey cabinet:
-
I second pbj's Turtlebox, loved the superior execution of a Pedistal that's based off another. The artwork and colour choices were perfect.
Two others come to mind right away (when I get back later tonight I'll sit and review some other favorites):
I nominate LT's Mario pedestal because above everything else it has an intricate and redundant pattern cut into the wood with a rotary tool, then filled in with ball point pen.
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,138220.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,138220.0.html)
And also LT's Asteroids small cabaret because it's quiet refined and cost very little to build. Even though it lacks an intricate and redundant pattern cut into the wood with a rotary tool, then filled in with ball point pen.

I second the mario pedestal. I even submitted that thing to a few video game blogs and was met with stony silence. Guess they're too busy writing about ---smurfy--- anime at Kotaku to cover anything game related.

The first reply not good enough for you? ;D I would also vote for LT's Nintendo build but it didn't have Mario on the flag pole so I am saving my vote for someone more deserving.

Won't make the cutoff. It was bumped. Actually a UCA 2012 contender. The necro threads and bumps added a lot of time to the review.
-
My bad. I browsed through a year's worth of project announcements and thought I had pruned the old ones, but that was definitely one of those, "I bet I could make something like that, too" moments when I saw it.
-
So many pedestals this year. They should have their own catagory like Bartops do.
I first Le Chuck's GoT Pedistal. Mainly because it's bad ass work, pocket screws, and I want to see it go toe to toe with LT's Mario and pbj's Turtles Pedistals.

I'm in the mountains and can't really post links, but I want to second Blip! And nominate/second Malenko 's Broad Street Bullies 4P cab. More info and links when I get back home.
And thank you all for the Macross noms. It means a lot coming from you guys
-
Looks like we're off to a great start. The top post will be updated daily or as necessary to show how we are progressing. As always, please feel free to double check our nom math as we've been known to miss things, and remember that for a project to make the voting pool it requires three nominations.

How do you top Barrel of Kong and Little Miss Pac Man? Jam 'em together and put them in a rocket! A thoughtful re imagining of a theme for a MAME cocktail.

These have all been nominated at least once so I'm seconding/thirding/forthing(*) them (* delete as appropriate)
Fullsize - one more nomination for LT's Asteroids and to add another great cab to the mix: Elvis's Moon Patrol build: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,141846.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,141846.0.html)

Clarification: The actual BARTOP isn't eligible for hardware category, but his view selection circuit is (especially since he's offered information to the community).
For future reference, anyone seconding or thirding this circuit should refer to JohnRT's Outrun View Selection Circuit and not the actual cab. The cab itself should be nominated under bartops. Thank you.

There are about 11.75 pages I think each page has 45 entries. Don't quote me because I am not going to count them again. in the project announcements sub to go through. So unless you were keeping bookmarks that is a lot to go through.
I bet there are at least 50 more waiting to finish the last step that they declared their project unfinished for.

Now that I'm home from playing in the Arizona snow, my thoughts:
Fullsize cabs
markc74's Blip!
Easily the most innovative, creative, and interesting full-size build from last year. It's comtemporary, yet appeals to a traditionalist like me. Also, the ONLY cab do to the LCD Marquee screen and pull it off so that it doesn't look like an afterthought or add-on.
Malenko's Broad Street Bullies Cab
He transformed a beat-up cab into a 4 player masterpiece, using artwork that had meaning to himself yet still fit in with the arcade world. He also, in my honest opinion, did 4 players the RIGHT way, by making a control panel that knew what it wanted to be without shoehorning extra controllers or superfluous buttons that weren't needed, increasing the real estate. A breath of fresh air in this day of superwide 4-player cabs.
Small cabs and non standards -
Louis Tully's Asteroids Deluxe - He took a cab idea and made it his own, customizing the artwork but still keeping it like something out of the 80s. My favorite build of his (yes, even over Warp Zone). I love all the little details, like the game selection buttons. It's clearly an example of someone getting better with time. *Note: I've seen it nominated as a full-size, but it's clearly a caberet and should be in this category.

Hardware
CraftyMech's Test Pattern Generator (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,137363.msg1416891.html#msg1416891). An AWESOME tool if you spend ANY time working with real arcade monitors.

Eric, why the hell do you keep using the spoiler tag on non-spoilers?
-
If Blip doesn't win, place or show, it will be a miscarriage of justice. So sleek. The part you don't see, might be the best; the swappable panel hiding on the top. So pretty. What I like is that slant on the sides of the coin door.
The access panel above the door is nice too.
To summarize: Eleventith

Can I 2nd (or 3rd or whatevs) the cabinet for the bartop AND the view selection circuit for the hardware? cause I wanna

Add my name to both of these. I agree with everything you said about Malenko's.
LT's Asteroids Deluxe made me consider getting rid of my dedicated AD. :applaud:

Its funny you say that, I seem to be missing random posts in some threads until i force refresh the page and the cache. Either Safari in iOS 8 doesn't like the forums, or i need to do an E&I on my tablet. Selecting and copying text in post text boxes has also been a ---smurfette---, as has the page header, it's cut right off at the bottom and i can't see the "Show new replies to your posts." link. Strange stuff i tell you.

Since I'm not on the UCA board but do respect the time and effort required to run an event like this, I'd like to post this Public Service Announcement for everyone nominating a build.
Don't be a lazy bastard and expect the volunteers on the UCA team to do your nomination formatting/categorizing/research work for you. :bat
If you messed up, go back and edit your nomination post.
Please follow the simple nomination format in the OP so it's easier for the the UCA team to compile the list.
(emphasis added)
To nominate please reply with this format:
Category: Name of Build or Project: Link
<img from build thread is welcome, please size to no more than 300px wide to keep the thread readable.>
<optional description of why nominated for that category>
Thanks to all members of the UCA board for all your hard work on this annual peer recognition tradition.

Hardware: Ultimarc Ultimate I/O Board
Nominating this because it's a killer idea. I had to go the dual board route with my build and I can't believe that these weren't avalible years ago?! I'm a big fan of Ultimarc gear, and this product was executed well.

Beat Em Up X:
2nd
Name another cabinet with 3D details. besides the Mario pedestal Neat details. Too bad there are no barrels in Gauntlet
Thanks guys.
BTW, it paint ended up very Gauntlet ish after paining. Beat'em up-X was built around Beat'em up and all the 4 player games that I loved as a kid. The barrel is a nod to Dubbed dragon and the outline from the CP from a topdown view is based off the 6 player x-man cab.
I would like to second or third:
PBJ's- Turrtlebox
Severdhed's- TMNT
LT's- Mario pedestal
Le Chucks Game of Thrones Pedestal (amended)
Go team pedestal!
I would have included Le Chucks Game of Thrones Pedestal because I think its by fare the best but I don't think its fare to include cab built on commission. That said the rules allow it and outstanding.
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,139064.msg1437898.html#msg1437898 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,139064.msg1437898.html#msg1437898)
I read my post and I sounded like a jealous jerk because Le Chuck's build is awesome. I still think commission's should be excluded next year.
-
As of this post the field is as follows:
Confirmed Nominations by Category
These have the requisite three nominations to make the vote-off in February
Fullsize Cab: Blip by Markc74; Super Spacefortress Macross by Yotsuya; R-Pod MKII by Space Hedgehog; Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime by Sjaak; Flyn's Arcade by ChanceKJ; Broad Street Bullies by Malenko
Small Cabs and Non-Standards: Mario Pedestal by Louis Tully; Game of Thrones by Le Chuck; Missile Command Cocktail by jahilbert; Asteroids Deluxe by Louis Tully; Turtlebox by PBJ;
Bartops: Sega Bartop by Grippie;
Hardware: Ultimarc Ultimate I/O Board by Andy
Software:
The following have been nominated and seconded but don't have the final nomination yet: Jacie's Arcade; Beat'em Up X; TMNT Pedestal; Outrun Bartop; Outrun View Selection Circuit;
The following have been nominated once: Streetfighter; Clint; R-Kaid-R; Moon Patrol; Pattern Generator; Super Playchoice; Plywood & Walnut Supergun; Howler
I don't think its fare to include cab built on commission.
This was discussed when the UCAs were in development in prior to the first event in 2011. Correct, there is no rule against it. We also allow vendors to compete in any category including putting commercial hardware and software up against amateur offerings. For this year it will remain as such, but by all means that is a completely valid reason to vote for or against a certain build. Feel free to open a separate thread to spur discussion and recommend changes to the process. While we are not set in stone it is in the best interest of the process to be slow to change; however, ultimately we are a community and will do our best to reflect the consensus of that community. Simpatico?

Simpatico.
I should have started a thread after this years UCA's suggesting commission builds and Pro venders be lump together in a separate Category. On further reflection I think including commission builds are fine.
-
I think it is very fair to include a cab built on commission, and I really don't want to start getting into such minutiae. Should we disqualify cabs that are CNC built and not hand built? What about projects with commissioned artwork instead of self-designed? I just think that's too much of an can of worms.
-
Sorry for the brief post (I've been away from a PC):
3rd for Outrun Bartop.
2nd for Clint
2nd for Moon Patrol

Software:
(I) Fix(ed)-it Felix Wrapper (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,135805.0.html) by Howard_Casto
From his site:
Tuesday, January 14, 2014, 01:51 AM - Fix-it Felix Jr.
This is probably the final build. The rotate on "R" function has been removed and a minor sanity check has been added, as per usual download link is to the right.
Howard's spectacular wrapper was nominated and confirmed last year along with IDS's Mawler. There was no third software entry so those to didn't go to a vote off. Howard has already been recognized via the UCAs for this contribution and so will not be in the running this year. To be fair we all, including Howard, thought the wrapper was complete in 2013.

Hey LT, I think you're the first cat to ever have two builds in the same category get confirmed - and all within the first 24hrs of the nom thread opening. Griff had two builds in two categories last year IIRC but you're actually competing against yourself here. That's some damn fine craftsmanship and I think it is impressive as all hell. Not only do you crank out builds with a quickness you do it better than most so my hat is off to you man. Well done!
-
While the enthusiasm is nice, if something has already been thirded, can you please stop listing them? It clogs up the tabulation process. You can chuff out in the actual vote thread once it goes live. Please continue to list and second worthy projects that need votes.
Thanks.

In an effort to get some Restored cabs both nominated and put into their own category i'd like to nominate the following amazing saves. Cabs like these are, after all, the reason we're all here on this forum in the first place.
Restoration: MK3FAN's "Mario Bros."
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,138978.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,138978.0.html)
This restore was amazing. It's final product fits in with the rest of his Nintendo row, and it was a fitting result in respect to that old nintendo cab. Definitely one of my favorites.
Restoration: chopperthedog's "Taito Stratovox Rescue"
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,140480.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,140480.0.html)
That coin door though... You can tell some elbow grease went into this restore and it paid off. I didnt even know that game existed, but this restore and the look of that cab makes me want to play it.
Restoration: MK3FAN's "Rampage Restoration"
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,139045.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,139045.0.html)
The CP and bezel art on this restore are off the chart, the neon green side art just makes the finished product pop. I'm nominating this not just because I love the game, but the art just wins.
Restoration: Malenko's "Mortal Kombat Restoration"
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,139884.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,139884.0.html)
This was a clean and well thought out restore. I'm digging that yellow t-moulding, and the little details matter to me as I have fond memories of this cab from my childhood. Awesome work here.
Restoration: opt2not's "Rock on! Asteroids Cocktail Restoration"
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,107874.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,107874.0.html)
Take one look at how clean all the electronics and buttons look on this restore and you'll make a nomination for it too. The care and detail in restoring the smallest parts of this are jaw dropping.
Restoration: namsan's "Trilogy Mortal Kombat I, II, III Cabinet Kollection"
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,141465.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,141465.0.html)
Seriously?! All three?! Not only did this restore nail one of my favorite games, but the thread shows the incredible attention to detail for all three machines. Simply amazing. I hope these cabs are never split up. That would be a shame.

I second Multiball Madness,
I also nominate for Pinball: jaharr01's "Scooby Doo Mystery Pinball"
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,139505.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,139505.0.html)
Maybe I have a thing for the colour purple on arcade machines? The art and design of this pin are well thought out and I loved watching it get built. Not to mention that it almost practically caused thoughts of divorce! Now that's commitment!
I also nominate for a Pinball Category: Superfrog's "KISS Mini Pinball"
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,136020.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,136020.0.html)
This was one of the first builds I ever followed. The cool lockdown bar with the inset buttons, and the awesome pop out tray. This build was a reason to check the forums everyday.
I also nominate for a Pinball Category: rockyrocket's "Nexus Pin"
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,140220.msg1457490.html#lastPost (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,140220.msg1457490.html#lastPost)
I'm nominating this build because it's not everyday you see a cellphone and a Pi used for something so cool. I love the theme, and it's crazy how well this turned out. I'm a huge fan of the little details that went into the screenshot below:
-
I nominate pinballs to be a separate category...
-
I nominate that pincabs should be illegal to build because I almost got divorced while I was building mine
-
I nominate: Martijn Multiball Madness for Pinball
I second Multiball Madness,
I third Multiball Madness
I also nominate for Pinball: jaharr01's "Scooby Doo Mystery Pinball"
I second Scooby Doo Mystery Pinball
-
I also nominate my Iphone for the taking horrible grainy washed out pictures class
-
I nominate that pincabs should be illegal to build because I almost got divorced while I was building mine
:laugh2: Gotta work on that "spousal approval"
Who wants to put money down that Yot's is gonna come up here to Calgary and cut me for making all these crazy nomination posts?
I also nominate for a hope of a Cabaret category:
Cabaret: shrunkenmaster's "Rocks! Scratch-built Asteroids Cabaret"
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,141197.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,141197.0.html)
I'm nominating this because of the builders meticulous attention to detail. This build is show room quality and by far one of the best builds I've ever seen. Every bit of this build from the art, to the buttons, the coin door was well planned and comes off amazing. Looking closely at the build pictures you can see the crazy attention to detail. I really wish I had this exact cab in my living room. This is how it's done.
Cabaret: skyblast's "Mame Joust themed cabaret"
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,137192.msg1415069.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,137192.msg1415069.html)
I'm a big fan of this build. It's not often you see a joust cabaret built. Sure, it's a popular game, but it's nice to see a build that's not Nintendo, Mrs PacMan, or FIFJ. This is a great authentic looking build. And I love how polished it looks.

This is no $hit, she got so mad at me over that friggin pincab, when I went to Lowes one day, she somehow dragged it up 2 stairs around corners through 3 rooms and put it on the back porch by herself, somehow without scratching it. Now that's a special kind of crazy.

Can we nominate your wife for something?!
-
Well she's better now that she is medicated, but yes.

.
-
2nd all. Lets get a restore category going. I'll try to find more stand out examples to nominate.
Point taken, and Sorry
Got a little carried away. I don't think I have much chance to win as so many great builds are included (LT I'm looking at you). That said I am very surprised and proud to have a build nominated. I would hate to diminish any one else's nomination buy flooding a category. I'll give much more thought to any more nominations, 2nd's, or 3rd's.
-
It's happening again...
-
I don't really think its cool for a user to go all nom happy just to push an agenda of the way he/she thinks things should be once we're in the middle of execution when there are literally 9 months of open space to discuss this sort of thing.
These awards are surprisingly important to people. Will they be as important if the process gets diluted into a rolling contest of who can nominate the most stuff the fastest? No idea. Guess we'll find out tho.
-
404's DK cabaret is blue, not orange. And also, never finished (at least from what's posted in his thread).
IMO, you should only nominate a cab you would or plan to vote for. Yeah, a cabaret category would be great. But to be honest, the DK is a KLOV project (as stated earlier, and if you actually read 404's thread, he gave his unfinished cab away), and that Joust, while nicely done, doesn't scream "cream of crop" to me. Let's try not to turn the UCAs into peewee league flag football...
-
I'm ok with a pinball category because it's an apples to oranges comparison with MAME cabs, but I don't think there were enough restorations to merit a category. If there were MK3Fan's Mario Bros would win it anyway :)
-
As of this post the field is as follows:
Confirmed Nominations by Category
These have the requisite three nominations to make the vote-off in February
Fullsize Cab (9): Blip by Markc74; Super Spacefortress Macross by Yotsuya; R-Pod MKII by Space Hedgehog; Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime by Sjaak; Flyn's Arcade by ChanceKJ; Broad Street Bullies by Malenko; Clint by Yamatetsu; Track & Field by Shrunkenmaster; Multiball Madness by Martijn;
Small Cabs and Non-Standards (7): Mario Pedestal by Louis Tully; Game of Thrones by Le Chuck; Missile Command Cocktail by jahilbert; Asteroids Deluxe by Louis Tully; Turtlebox by PBJ; Beat'em-Up X by Locke141; Asteroids by Shrunkenmaster
Bartops (2): Sega Bartop by Grippie; Outrun by JohnRT;
Hardware (1): Ultimarc Ultimate I/O Board by Andy
It's a long month, lots of time for the field to change.
The following have been nominated and seconded but don't have the final nomination yet: Jacie's Arcade; TMNT Pedestal; Outrun View Selection Circuit; Moon Patrol; Nostalgia; Mario Bros, Stratovox, Rampage, MK, Asteroids cocktail, MKI, MKII, MKIII, Scooby-Doo Pinball;
The following have been nominated once: Streetfighter; R-Kaid-R; Pattern Generator; Super Playchoice; Plywood & Walnut Supergun; Howler; Q-bert; Scottboxjr; Kiss Minipin; Nexus Micropin; Joust Cabaret;
-
Hardware
CraftyMech's Test Pattern Generator (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,137363.msg1416891.html#msg1416891). An AWESOME tool if you spend ANY time working with real arcade monitors.

Seconded.

I like cheesesteaks. I think we need to have a cheesesteak category.
-

Double this.

I think Sjaak's Tweak battle project deserves a nomination in the Fullsize cabs too: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,143010.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,143010.0.html)

I don't think so:
I bought an Aim Track Unit trying to figure out the best way to hide it. Anyone have any ideas? Or links?
-
He also talked about some bezel stickers that haven't been posted. Plus, he never declared it as complete. Too bad, too. He and Malenko did 4 players in a great, tasteful way.
-
I like my layout better, but I like his stick and button color coordination. Also , his art puts mine to shame.
-
yeah its too bad that marvel cabinet is awesome
-
I went and edited my previous posts in this thread to give my resons for all my nominations.
yeah its too bad that marvel cabinet is awesome
Agreed. I spent some time looking for that thread last night only to be disappointed when I realized it wasn't finished as per the rules. That's too bad, but at least it's been dug up and shown in this thread, more people get to see how to do a proper homage to a classic the right way*
(*Subjective comment is subjective) :D

I would hate to diminish any one else's nomination buy flooding a category. I'll give much more thought to any more nominations, 2nd's, or 3rd's.
Edit: When I was in Undergraduate Student Government (USG) every time something exciting came up, like when we would rent out a night club or the time we had The Roots come to perform, we would form an event committee to do all the planning, organizing, and work to make that event happen smoothly. Then report back to the body for final approval. Any one in USG could have join the committee and participated, but it was always the same small group that showed up and did all the work.
How ever, when it came time to report back to the body for final approval, there were always a few people that couldn't have been bothered put in the time, but they would want to make changes then and there. Some times some of them would have a good idea, more often it was an idea that was discussed at the committee meeting and was decided against. If you (in this case I) did not put in the time to contribute when every one else did, be respectful to those who gave the time and energy that did.
I get it now and again my apologies.

I wanna nominate the Dominix8 by Randy and the guys at GGG. There are tons of sticks out there everybody has an opinion about them. I think Randy feels the needs of the arcade community and the Vpin community and comes out with quality hardware. The only thing I think that would make it a perfect product is if it could switch from 4 to 8 way with a lever or solenoid. It is a bit pricey at $40+ but if you are spending say $700 why would you want to get a $12 joystick.

Royale with Cheese in a Burger Time cabinet - You'd dig it the most! That is a Tasty Burger! John Travolta and Sameul L Jackson in matching Pete Big Kahuna burger uniforms.

I was thinking of a tiny arcade inside a leather wallet called "Bad Mother ---saint's minion---"
This makes me think of the theme from Shaft for some reason.
-
Don't see why we couldn't have one dedicated to Samuel L Jackson.
. . . plus . . .
It's my Cab!
It'll play some games!!!!!
This (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0417148/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1) becomes "Games on a Cab." :laugh2:
Scott
You are DEFINITELY in the lead for the "Top Pun of a ---smurfette--- 2015" UCA award.... >:D

Seconded. Awesome stick (just bought 3) and I love the dedication of Randy for trying to preserve the feel of the old Wicos now that the originals are becoming harder and harder to find.

I want to nominate DeLuSioNal29's Vigolix Invader. It's been a really good year for vigolix cabs, and while a number of people elevated the design and added creative improvements from my humble prototype, I have to say that D probably tops the healthy list of a vigolix cabs done right. On the cabinet itself - he stayed in a good budget yet was able to make something that dynamically popped. The whole theme works well. I like his t-molding solution and love the control panel artwork. He kept the gaming focused on vertical classics, and kept the machine silent running using a JAMMA board. That is an important feature in a small, open-backed cabinet.

I'll second it, it's a nice, clean looking Vigolix, and the bat-ears aren't as pronounced as other ones I've seen. Good job, DeLuSioNal29.
-
2nd for Moon Patrol
3rd for Moon Patrol

I'd like to THIRD DeLuSioNal29's awesome Vigolix. Vigo really hit a homerun with that cabinet design and DeLuSioNal29's is a grandslam! This cabinet is perfect for getting our younger generation started into this hobby. Just as he done by creating his additional examples for his nephew/niece.
-
I also nominate for a Pinball Category: rockyrocket's "Nexus Pin"

I'm nominating this build because it's not everyday you see a cellphone and a Pi used for something so cool. I love the theme, and it's crazy how well this turned out. I'm a huge fan of the little details that went into the screenshot below:

I've been offline for two weeks and this place goes crazy with posts...I'll be catching up on reading for another week!
Most of the builds I wanted to nominate have been...but I would like to second the Nexus Pin build. I love the micro builds.
Also...I can't believe I'm going to have to choose between the R-Pod and Blip....that just isn't right.
-
I nominate fr_303's Street Fighter Cab in the Fullsize cabs:

-
3rd for Severdhed's TMNT

Already non but R-Pod MKII that's one awesome build, definitely going to be my next project

I agree. R-Pod is in a league of it's own.

Thanks, Eric.
Yes, folks, chuff out in two weeks when the vote thread begins.
-
No lobbying intended, I really think that R-Pod should have it's own category, comparing something like that to 'ordinary' upright cabinets is comparing apples to oranges :dunno

Actually, it's catergoized as a racer, and so since racers are in the upright category, that's where it's has been placed. Trust me, this has been discussed.

I started one of these. If you don't round off the top, you are obligated to register your Vigolix as a deadly weapon.

Ok then, can't wait to see how that plays out :applaud:
-
Just for clarification, just to show it's been like that since day one...
Here's a list of this year's categories and a brief definition:
Fullsize cabs - Uprights, cockpits, V-Pins, Racers, and showcase cabs that demonstrate outstanding theme, style, balance, and execution.
-
Hey, thanks for the nominations all.
Do we have an updated tally on what's been nominated so far?

Good catch. I play the Android version and will second this.
-
Completely missed this, thanks for the reminder.
I third Space Commander
-
Shitballs. What category would Chances Super Play Choice fit into? Whatever category I give it a vote.
:applaud: thanks man! Haha, I didn't even notice until I read the UCA recap post just now.

CNC: CNC64... I mean CNC86... I mean CNC2116: Link (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,113763.0.html)
I nominate CNC64/CNC86/CNC2116 for the CNC category because... wait, what do you mean "There's no CNC category and half-working projects that still aren't finished after multiple years aren't allowed?"
edit: I also nominate Blip for the full-size category.
-
Less than a week until nominations close with voting threads to open soon after. Still plenty of time to alter the field and get your favorite recognized, but don't be late because on Saturday at midnight this carriage turns into a pumpkin for another year. All that said, the UCA committee has adjusted the categories based on the current confirmed submissions to the following:
