Title: Retropie+arcade cp=can't exit mame ROMs
Post by: ninjasquirrel on December 23, 2014, 10:04:06 pm
Hey guys,
For all of those who have ventured into using the raspberry pi for their small cabs and projects, I have a quick question. I've installed retropie v. 2.3 updated, upgraded, etc It's using emulation station as the front end and I have Pisnes and mame 0.37b5 along with the preinstalled ports-duke nukem, doom, and cave story. I have set up my controls according to this post- http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=82878 (http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=82878)
So everything is working according to plan after playing with the config file for all the emulators except one snag. I have set up my shift key as my coin insert button "6" and exit command as button "6" + player 1 start "7"  here is the command:

input_enable_hotkey_btn = “6″
input_exit_emulator_btn = “7″

I can start a SNES ROM or 1 of the 3 dos port games and this command does exactly like it's intended to...it immediately exits the emulator and goes back to Emulation Station front end.  When I try this in Mame, nothing at all happens.  I tried changing the button combination to a different set of mapped buttons but nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas what's going on?

If needed I can try and copy the input section of my config file if it would shed some light.
Thanks

FYI I resolved this issue late last night after simplifying the process. I just tabbed to mame menu in game, went to the input for all games, and mapped the exit UI to both buttons. Should have realized this earlier but oh we'll. All is good now, just in time for giving this gift tomorrow!

I had the same issue. Mame uses it's own controller configuration. How are you liking the Retropie setup?

I'm actually impressed with the ease of installation and setup for  Retropie. It really is a plug and play system by simply adding your roms and bios if needed, and then it auto-populates the menu in Emulation Station. I was intimidated by the linux interface but with all the fantastic forums and write ups on almost every aspect of the Pie setup, it was like following a recipe. I haven't tried to use the ES scraper to grab artwork, but since this was a Christmas gift for my father in law, I wasn't too worried about it.  I will probably make one of these all-in-one control panels for myself also, and I've also been looking at the Raspicade distribution. Looks promising also.
