Anyone have one? Anyone recommend a good one?--the idea is to scan sideart without trying to press my whole flatbed scanner against the side of the machine. I plan to use guides (actually its a hockey stick and wood clamps but guides sounds more professional...) to make sure I get straight scans.
Just wondered if the technology is finally there to get a decent 300DPI scan of a whole side of a machine easily....

With the amazing quality of DSLR cameras these days why don't you just photograph it, use the raw file and color correct it as needed?
But to your questions I haven't seen a hand held scanner in years anywhere but back in the day the stiching software was good so I don't think you'd need guides. Just overlap.

Thats assuming I have a DSLR camera (which I don't) or planning on getting one(which I don't) Also, I have done the photo+stitching route in the past and between lighting differences, weird distortions at the edges, minute distance differences that have to be photoshopped out, I have found the scanning route to be far superior (I guess results vary depending on equipment..)
