Title: The Interview - Release Canceled....Aaaand Nevermind.
Post by: hypernova on December 17, 2014, 06:52:13 pm
Sony has canceled the release of the movie on Christmas.  The top five theaters have said they won't be showing it out of fear for their workers and customers, thus Sony's decision.

This despite no apparent credible evidence of an actual threat so far.

Now I really want to see this movie just to spite those ---punks---.  And the government has said they've been able to attribute the hack to North Korea.

Edit:
As expected, the release is back on.  Sony will allow theaters with enough balls to show the movie if they want.

I'm sure most mediocre comedies wished they had terrorist threats. Seems like good publicity.

Department of Homeland Security has found NO credible threat evidence.

I hate being cynical but I can't help but wonder if this isn't a marketing stunt to fluff up a lame movie.

I think its all hype.

I don't think they are going to shelf a project that cost all that money to make.

I don't believe any of this.  I posted on website and its FBook page, that they should release it online.  For free.

Its all hype.

I think what happens next is that "someone else" leaks this online.

Nothing happens, the N.Koreans still fear their  supreme leader and then the movie gets released.

But you gotta think the white hats have already back traced this and the consequences are already not going to be the same.  All of their bases :are: belong to us.

Funny, as I love 3D...  and every decent Imax 3D film Ive seen has been filled to near, if not full capacity.

The problem is most likely that everyone has different spacing between their eyes.   Some people wont see the effect correct due to this.  Id love to hear someone test out a periscope like device, that has an adjustable distance mirror setup in it... so that the exact distance is recreated perfectly.

I saw the latest Ridley Scott film Exodus and I had the whole cinema to myself.

When I noticed Christian Bale in the first 5 minutes I was tempted to make my own exodus.  It was a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- film in 3d, but the visuals were good.

Terrible movies get released all the time..hell  most of the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- I get from Redbox either bores me to death or is just a bad movie IMO.

I heard that , believe it or not, Seth Rogan movies are some of the most profitable movies in the industry.  Can't make it up.

Who would have thought that potheads that live in their parent's basements would have a bunch of disposable income?

This is the End was kinda funny but not because of Seth Rogan (though the breathing in the closet scene was pretty great). 50 /50 was pretty good, but again not because of him.  The rest of the stuff he "starred" in kinda sucked. a lot.

I liked "Knocked Up", "Neighbors", and "Pineapple Express"  Stupid movies that are immature and shallow make me laugh, what can I say?  And no I don't smoke weed ;D

Note that while I said it was canceled, it doesn't mean it was completely shelved.  It will be released at some point, whether it's a few weeks or months down the road.  And it definitely does not look like a stunt...not with the massive hacking they've been hit with.

I guess "Knocked Up" was good or at leas didnt suck alot. Neighbors had potential but ultimately it made me want to side with the frat ..... he was a total dick in that movie. Pineapple Express was terrible, Kenny ---smurfin--- Powers couldnt save that turd.   Not related to Rogan, Grandma's Boy and Half-Baked are stoner flicks that I think are hilarious.

According to most news formats, it's not going to be released on any platform.

I was always indifferent towards him until recently - He was in a really weird, nihilistic movie called Observe & Report featuring a really cringe inducing date rape scene.  Then I see him on Bill Maher a few weeks ago talking about how messed up it is that 80s comedies thought rape was funny.  Wow, dude.  Nice.

I like many of the movies he is in, but not because of him.  Come on, who doesn't like 40 year old virgin or Superbad?  But then there are movies like Pineapple express that while amusing at times, pretty much suck ass.

The thing I despise most is the "awkward comedy" stuff that is so popular now.  Sure, a little bit of awkward and uncomfortable comedy works great, but it needs to be subtle or it just starts to get painful, and not in a good way.  Movies that are ALL awkward are not funny to me, and I will turn the channel every time.  It is just too easy to overdo it, at least IMHO.  Thing is, that is his specialty, well, that and just being really stupid.

As for this movie, I can see from the previews that there are going to be funny parts, but as a whole I just wouldn't have paid to go to the theater.  Put it straight to dvd and when it is showing on HBO a year from now I will probably watch it.

I read an article yesterday that said that the security breach at Sony could be the costliest hack ever.  There are already class action lawsuits by employees whose personal emails and information was made public, and those alone will end up costing no less than $10 million, more likely a lot more.  The loss if Sony never releases this movie will be substantial, at least $50 million, but no different than any big budget flop in recent years.  They spend over $10 million on promotion already, and $30 million on the movie itself.

The writer just asked for the right to post the film online, but that will never happen.  If Sony is going to release this at all, they will do it in a way they can make money.  If I were a betting man, I would say that some kind of public government intervention will take place, maybe just a speech by Obama talking about how we are not going to let terrorists dictate how we do business or something along those lines, and then the movie will be released shortly after, and just because of the threats, it will do better.

If what I heard is true, Sony's Japanese parent company had a lot to do with why it was pulled. N. Korea ain't a threat to us, but Japan is only a puddle away.

The Obama speech at lunch time started just as I had to leave to get back to work.  Have you seen the President speak about this and does it change your thoughts?

lol, I just looked at that.  I stand firm on my thoughts, I think that after the holidays, maybe in February or March, Sony will release the movie.  I also think that just prior to that there will be a minor news story about how a new task force (government funded of course) will be formed to actively work against hackers from foreign countries to protect the American way of life.

It is like a bad story plot in itself, which will actually end up as a movie directed by Michael Bay, starring some kind of robot that assists in the retaliation against North Korea and then gets destroyed by the Americans when they discover that the robot was planning to take what it learned and throw the entire world into chaos.  It will star Bruce Willis, who will be the only one who really knows that the President is behind the robot, and to prevent another robot from being released on the world, has to break into the White house and press a button on a remote that is hidden in a secret drawer in the Oval Office to delete all traces of the software used to create the first robot.  In the end, the president's daughter, played by Megan Fox, will fall in love with Bruce Willis' character (despite the 40 year age difference).  In the sequel, she will marry him, leak to the presses how her new husband actually saved the world by stopping her evil father, and the resulting popularity will springboard him into politics, where she will drive him to run for presidency himself, all in an effort to get back to the white house where she can finish her plans to destroy the world, because after all, she was the one behind the whole thing, including the hack on Sony that she blamed on North Korea in effort to gain control of the robot that she had learned a secret research company funded by her father had been building to protect the world from terrorists.  And she will get naked, which will earn the film a billion dollars in total revenues.  Michael Bay will take the credit for it, fire Megan Fox, replace her with someone else for the third movie, which will prompt Bruce Willis to quit and be replaced by Shia LeBouf.  This third movie will be written by George Lucas, and while the fans of the original two movies will find one more reason to hate George Lucas and Michael Bay, it will still end up making another billion dollars in merchandising when he introduces a cute but annoying alien that, while inept and not part of the first two movies, somehow will be the catalyst that saves the world.

Trust me, it is gonna happen EXACTLY like I said..  But that first movie will end up being held back on the threat of cyber terrorism from Canada.

This whole thing was pants.

As far as all theaters showing.  The theater in our sleepy town can show any movie, we have 3d anyway, but he only orders a movie that he thinks will return the cost to show it.  Some movies cost more to show, others aren't available from his distributor.  The whole thing is a bit strange, but either way we don't get every movie.  Sometimes we get a popular movie 3 months later.  *shrug*

Anyway, this whole thing was pants from the beginning.  I also don't think it is a coincidence that a dvdscreener hasn't shown up yet.

Tell me, has anyone actually seen this information that sony had hacked from them?

Gotta agree with that - just hope that this starts a trend -- I'd much rather sit at home and watch at my convenience and be able to pause or rewind during the showing then go to a sticky floored theater and sit through the whole thing and at $5.99 for the 48 hour rental it would be a much better bargain than the theater as well !!
