For arcade logic game boards. What do they mostly use the shift registers for? the address decoders for? multiplexers for?

Dude. Seriously? Arcade electronics are no different than any other electronics. If you want to know what a shift register does, google it. Same with everything else.

No, they don't. An arcade board is nothing more than a dedicated computer. If you know what the circuits do in a computer, then you know what they do on an arcade board. Nothing magical happens with a circuit simply by being on a board that just happens to be inside a wooden cabinet with a joystick.

Here guys I want examples like this
Address Decoding is for
1.) Organize the memory Map
2.) Chip Select
Moving Object Multiplexing
a.) Multiplexer pass information to the moving object PROM
b.) Multiplexer#1 determines which image should appear
c.) Multiplexer#2 determines which line of that image is to be displayed
Shift Registers
a.) Character generator output shift registers to form an 8 horizontal wide by 8 vertical line character on the CRT
b.) Shift Register takes a byte of data from the Character generator chip and displays one line at a time from left to right on the CRT
c.) Shift Registers on the output of a Moving Object PROMs
The Shift Register, shifts 16 parallel bits output serially to become video
d.) The Shift Register results in a video image that is 16 bits wide by 16 lines high
IRQ goes LOW when:
a.) Latches when a coin is dropped
b.) Vertical sync occurs
c.) The CPU jump to the Interrupt service routine
d.) Updates the Screen by the vertical retrace interval
Screen Controller PROM
a.) Controls the direction of data flow into and out of the screen RAM and Character Generator RAM
b.) Prevents Buss Conflicts
CRT controller Chip = 6845/6545/46505
a.) This chip controls the timing of the Screen RAM
b.) Is a programmable sync and scan generator chip

I'm trying to understand how an arcade logic board works
There is different address decoders, different latches, different shift registers, different multiplexers.etc.
They all have a purpose and a function. They all do the same thing for every logic arcade board and are placed in the same stages in every logic arcade board.
Please explain the purpose and function of these IC chips like what I did from your experience and repairs

That's why I think it's full of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---. Leading good guys like you around by the nose then coming up with this kind of crap out of the blue. Not sure what this entity is doing, but it smells bad.

When you look at arcade logic board schematics and see the Shift registers, address decoders, multiplexers, latches , how do you think they work and what the do for arcade logic board games?
Mostly they use PROM , programmable ram for Video ROM, why is that? why do they want to use a programmable rom for video signals?
