Title: No sound from right speaker?
Post by: roseysdad on December 15, 2014, 02:58:58 pm
Hello.

My boss recently purchased a RI-5 (Rowe AMi, build 1983) and we're not able to get sound from the tweeter (4 1/2 inch) top right speaker.  The speaker works when hooking it up to the L channel wires.  The L speaker works when hooked up to the L channel using the R speaker wires.  Im guessing that the R channel board is the problem.  How do I narrow it down from there?

you can try swapping the left and right leads on the pickup head (needle) itself. if the sound switches sides, there is a problem with the pickup. (not uncommon to happen)

if the same side stays dead you probably have a dead output channel. if so, the amp will have to be serviced.

That exact thing happened to me on an old turntable/receiver.  Even same right speaker.  I still don't understand what happened and I don't have the speakers anymore.

Hello roseysdad,

Welcome to the forum.

If you have found out that the tweeter is ok, if there is a output package fitted on your amplifier (or if a 125/130 watt amplifier is fitted with a separate output package) you need to check that the pink and pink wires are on E6 Left & E6 Right and the black  & Black/yellow wires are connected to E1 feft & right (in the case of the separate output package it is a black wire to E1 right).

Please let us know how you get on.

Regards
Alan
