:o :o :o You spent more than twice as much on your control panel as I have on my whole cabinet! Almost 3 times as much as I spent on my whole cabinet actually...

Icecold - Did you build one from scratch or gut an old one? Building a cabinet is expensive. I built one that is based off of the Lusid plan and the cost is probably very similar to what he listed. However, I did not use quite as many controls.

Well, I admit, mine is nowhere near as cool as one of the Ultimate Arcade II's. I used an old gutted cab. My only real expense was the monitor, and the controls were a small amount also. It's just kind of interesting(at least to me) how relatively little I've spent on my cabinet compared to many of the others on here.
Pretty soon I'll be going through what you guys are(cost wise). I would like to construct a 4 player cab soon.

That is more than what my 3 cheapest Mame cabs cost combined. Maybe even more than I spent on all four of them. ;D

The one I've just started building is probably gonna cost around $30(and I'm actually building it too :D , all that money is for the cost of wood, paint and plexiglass!). It's gonna be a bartop, so it needs less materials. I'm hacking an old keyboard I already had, using a 14" monitor I already had, using a pentium 100mhz I already had, using buttons I already have, and using some joysticks that I got 4 for $20(those microleaf joysticks). What makes it even cheaper is, I'm getting the wood, paint, and plexiglass as part of my Christmas presents. So this thing is gonna cost me nothing to make.

Oh, if we are counting stuff we already had as free, then my Mame Firebird only cost me $10. The cab was free, the computer parts were all leftovers, the monitor was free, the controls were originals/spares, etc. The only thing I had to pay for was the speakers.

Cool! Sounds like we both make our cabs for really cheap! :) I can't believe how cheap the bartop will be though, considering I'm building it. Usually it costs WAY more to build than just gut a cab. I guess I'm finally getting to the point where I have a lot of extra stuff, and stuff that I can use.

Yeah, my only even halfway expensive cabinet is my Amazing Mame, but even that wasn't too expensive (around $350). The remote control and rebuilt wico sticks with long handles jacked the price way up on that one.
-
Uhm, the origional poster asked how much it costs to build CONTROL PANEL not a whole cab as he want's to decide to build one or buy a prefabricated one.
For me i built one with stuff from Ultimarc (www.ultimarc.com) as i didn't have any working stuff: 2 T-sticks, shitload of buttons and an IPAC for interfacing, summed up to a total of about 150 USD incl shipping (not 100% sure on the ammount). Add some cash for wood, paint and stuff and you'll get the picture.
If you already have some hardware and make a keyboard hack/gamepad hack things are much cheaper fcourse.

bigboar - sorry for hijacking your thread, I was just surprised to see how much people spend on the cp alone
