In my Mame cab, the control panel tilts up from the back to expose all the wiring for easy maintenance. I currently have a screw with washer on each side to hold it down, otherwise it has the tendency to lift when you pull down on the joystick(s) with medium force.
While the screw and washer work fine, I am looking for an alternative, something more techie that I don't have to remove to lock the panel down, but be able to access it easily if needed (without having to get the drill out to remove the screws.)
See the pics.
My thought on what would be perfect is to find a small button I could install on each side that would push in, click, and stay in until it was pushed again and would then pop out, staying out - kind of like a ball point pen.
I've searched the net pretty extensively but have yet to find anything like what I'm describing above. Part of the problem is I really don't know what to search for as I can't imagine any other applications where you'd use a button like I'm looking for.
I'm open to any thoughts or ideas with, again, the goal in mind to be able to keep the CP in place while gaming, and easily open it for access to the underside.
Thanks in advance for any help!

These (http://www.quik-latch.com/quik-latch-cabinet.html) look promising. But seem to be a little larger than what you need.

That looks very cool, thanks! I love the design of it, but I would have to install it on the control panel vs on the side panel, and would have to install a piece of wood or something behind the CP and drill new holes. More work than I would like but again, it looks like a very cool product. That will work unless I can find something that involves a little less work...
Any other ideas? Anyone? Bueller, Bueller...

I just used a magnet out of a dead hard drive. They are pretty good sized rare earth magnets. Screwed the magnet on one side, screwed a big fat washer to the other side and it "SNAP"s pretty darn tightly when closed. To open it, you gotta give the CP a pretty solid yank.

I had that idea too. Even bought some strong magnets at the hardware store but I ended up returning them as I wasn't sure if they would still hold it down in place during intense fighter game sessions. Guess I won't know until I give it a go - it's a good idea!

That's why I used a dead hard drive. Those tend to be free and the rare-earth magnets inside em are strong! Not to mention there tend to be a lot of other parts in there that are handy for those that like to tinker... a.k.a most of us on this forum. :)
