Title: bartop plan
Post by: maximebeauvais on November 20, 2014, 12:42:57 pm
Hi,
I'm looking to build a bartop and I try the search fonction on this site but I could not find what I want.
Is there a section or a topic that talk about bartop plan?

I want a pretty generic vertical bartop with the exception of control panel. i want a 1 player with 2 joystick so i will be able to play game like karate champ (need 2 joystick)
I don't want to have a 2 player with all the button since I always play alone anyway and since it is a vertical monitor, I don't want a big control panel (not too large)

thanks

Do you want to build it or buy it?

There are a few people that sell CNC cut boards to build cabinets with.

If you want to build it:

I built one very similar to what you describe for playing Robotron and smash TV - with 2 joysticks and 6 buttons  -- I did not post a build thread but used the plans for one from a build here downsized to 75% since I was using a 15" monitor with a few other modifications (can post a link to his plans in a few once I find the thread) - the only problem I ran into with the downsize was also using a full size AT MOBO and Computer PSU made it need just a bit more space to the back so I wound up cutting a hole in the back in order to fit the PSU.

this is exactly what I had in mind  :notworthy:

if you could find the plan or topic, I will really appreciated.

however, I want to have a vertical screen since i'm going to the the 412 - 1 jamma board (vertical) that have 95% of the game that I play. I have saw a list of the horizontal game and only 10 games that I like.

Thanks

after looking at my previous post (I know I asked the question about 4.3 versus horizontal verus vertical).

here is my topic:

so I guess that this is were I found that control panel configuration LOL it was somewhere in my head !!!

THe thread for the plans I used is HERE ( http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,123039.msg1306804.html#msg1306804 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,123039.msg1306804.html#msg1306804) )

BUt I made a few adjustments as I built it - his was larger so I downsized to 75% of the original plans that he has posted in the first post in his thread -- and then I didn't like the overhang on the sides on the Contol panel so cut it so it fit inside the sides instead. For the controls layout I used one of Slagcoins templates for the six button layout with 1 joystick and then flipped it over 2 place the second joystick with the same spacing from the other side of the buttons so it looked symetrical.

Figure if you want to go vertical for the monitor it should be easy to make the adjustments (perhaps use full size for the sides rather than 75% size and then adjust the width to fit the monitor size.) but the plans should provide a good starting point.

You would still have to build the bartop if you bought one of the bartop kits from the vendors on this site.  You just wouldn't have to cut the wood.

Sorry  but that is not building it, that is assembling it.   :P

I have all my hardware working now (412 in 1 and 619 in 1).

However, since it is a jamma board, I need to do a rotation of my screen

I'm looking for plan that will show my on how to rotate the screen so I could play horizontal and vertical game on the same monitor.

I will probably use a 19'' almost scare monitor.

Any help will be welcome.

thanks

I think you asked this before, and I don't think the answer has changed.

LOL maybe but no.

Before: I was asking if with a jamma board, we were able to do something that could resize the screen (horizontal and vertical)

Now: I do know that with the jamma bard, you have 2 choices: vertical or horizontal. there is no resize. I have done some testing and if I want to play vertical or horizontal game, I have to move the screen (do a rotation of the screen).

So now that I know that, I'm looking for a plan or idea to build a bartop and that I will be able to rotate the screen.

I have found this: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=75495.0;all (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=75495.0;all)

but any idea will be welcome.

Ok. If you're going to be using a PC, then you should be able to do it.
