Title: Happ motor + servo Amplifier AMC + Logitech drive FX XBOX 360, possible?
Post by: Andy_Bogard on November 20, 2014, 11:08:26 am
Hi Guys,

I am planing to do this stuff, did anyone of you interface the Logitech driveFX XBOX 360 wheel

(http://img15.hostingpics.net/thumbs/mini_580668logitechdriveFXXbox360.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=580668logitechdriveFXXbox360.jpg)

with the Happ stuff

(http://img15.hostingpics.net/thumbs/mini_485791happ.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=485791happ.jpg)

and servo AMC amplifier

(http://img15.hostingpics.net/thumbs/mini_115851amc.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=115851amc.jpg)

just like this guy  http://home.comcast.net/~mshaker/marks_arcade_006.htm (http://home.comcast.net/~mshaker/marks_arcade_006.htm) did?

I am planning to put 2 xbox 360 linked in a sega tourning car twin.

Is this feasible? What solutions would best suit? Did anyone of you make this?

Looking for some advice here :)

greetings from Belgium

I don't think anyone is going to be able to give you a definitive answer.
Nobody has tried it to the best of my knowledge.

In theory it would work.
The important things is that the range of resistance the Happ wheel reports from all the way in one direction to all the way in the other must match what the Logitech PCB is expecting pretty closely.  It's more than just using a potentiometer of the same value.  You may also have to adjust the amount of travel the Happ wheel has.
Some wheels also have some type of sensor to show that the wheel is centered.  If the xbox wheel has one, that would need to be fitted to the happ wheel.

Of the people who have done this hack for a PC wheel, half of them have experienced the wheel shaking back and forth when it is not held.
What happens is that the centering feedback slingshots the wheel past the center point, then it compensates by slingshoting it back the other way.
The result is a constant shaking.  The solution is to turn the centering feedback way down, but a lot of people aren't happy with the weaker centering feedback at that point.

wasn't familiar with the wheel, so checked it out

Buckle your seatbelt and hold on! Featuring Logitech Axial Feedback technology, the DriveFX wheel takes ordinary vibration effects from your Xbox 360 racing games and turns them into an exciting new driving experience. You'll feel all the curbs, bumps and crashes with greater realism.Platform: XboxPackaging: Box

so....it uses xinput which only reports rumble, not true ffb.  Seems to create something in between by using the rumble signal though.
This means that if used with PC games, you're not going to have the real directional ffb the game was intended to have.

I did it. In fact Timoe, our very own arcade stick BYOAC resident, debut the project on this very forum many years ago before we even had this part of the forum:

Project went though many many phases and worked for the most part but couldn't quite get the pedals working perfectly at the end. Wheel was wired to some ECCI Trackstar pedals but I've since sold them. Wheel and shifter is still at my friend's place(Tao fromMASSYSTEMS) but I've been too lazy to drive down and pick it up

Never even got the chance to use and enjoy the damn thing because I was always pressing Timoe and then Marcus(aka Toodles) to make certain changes and tweaks. Tao was the last guy who ended up working on it before some personal crap happened and I ended up giving up on it. After that I started drooling over the Frex wheel and no longer gave a rats ass about the Happ wheel project :lol

This was all before my Frex wheel and way before I bought my ECCI wheel. The amp really made the Happ wheel kick!

Thank you for your answers! :applaud:

Is it possible to know for sure that the servo Amplifier AMC will not have troubleshooting,as you mentionned Badmouth? I don't want to start building something having half a chance it won't work properly  :-\

Waw Isamu your post is really nice! Which XBOX 360 wheel did you use?

Do you guys know  any other XBOX 360 compatible wheels?

Andy, there is an adapter coming out that will allow you to use ANY steering wheel with ANY console/game. If you are serious about using a good wheel on your Xbox or PS3,  I would invest in a very good wheel like the upcoming Accuforce, and then use the ChronusMax adapter with your wheel. Jefferson is working on getting force feedback working via MaxAimDI. You can read more about it here:

The Happ wheel is a good wheel but there have been far more advanced and superior wheels since then. The 270 degree limitation and belt driven design certainly doesn't do it any favors.

thank you isamu ;)
nice thing this adapter, but useless as i need to use a wired wheel. :-\
My friend pickted up the twin touring car.  :applaud:
I have an other opportunity to get a daytona, i think I'll go for the L2M2 project instead... still a lot of work to come lol ;D

I was wondering. Is the Logitech DriveFX a good wheel for this kind of project? It is only "axial" force feedback. Does that matter?

I believe the term axial force feedback refers to the type of physical design the Driving Force FX uses. Has nothing to do with the circuit board. I think the circuit board will be just fine if wired to a happ wheel.
