I'm finishing my basement and some of it will be a home theater with a ton of consoles. I have a PS2 in my vertical cab for some cool shmups and love it. I hooked up a second one to my TV via component but the only horizontal game I have right now is Metal Gear solid 2. While the PS2 looks great via component, I have a PS3 as well and really like the cleaned up ports on my HD TV. What PS2 games that haven't been ported to PS3 are worth taking a look at? If there are any that the PS2 versions is somehow superior to the to PS3 port, I'm happy to take a look at them too.

The only cool thing about the ports is the fact that you can get trophies for them. However i don't like the up-scaling the PS3 does to the PS2 games. However remakes like FF7 in HD and Shadow of the Colossus are amazing on the pS3.

When I say ports, I mean HD remakes. I like playing SFII HD for example (I know it is an arcade remake). Shadow of the Colossus is another I'd rather play on the PS3. I should also note I'm talking about PS2 games on PS2 hardware. I jumped through hoops to get ps2 working on the older 4 port PS3 and it looks like crap. A PS2 via component looks much better than playing PS2 on PS3.

The suffering 1&2 and manhunt 1&2 they are often overlooked but they are great games. Also timesplitters 2 & 3.

Also timesplitters 2 & 3.
Time splitters is a great series made by the people at Free Radical. I would personally suggest 1 and Future Perfect, but I have never played 2 :dunno. These are great FPS games, nothing like it on the market today.
As for my personal recommendations, I would recommend Smugglers Run. It is a great arcade style racer that is all about smuggling contraband, and the game is really cheap.

Thanks for the recs. Any others?
Are there any "big" titles that haven't made their way to the ps3 with a HD update?

you could try here.http://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:PlayStation_2-only_games&pageuntil=Gunfighter+II%3A+Revenge+of+Jesse+James#mw-pages (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:PlayStation_2-only_games&pageuntil=Gunfighter+II%3A+Revenge+of+Jesse+James#mw-pages)
Maybe look up some gameplay or trailers on YouTube and see what interests you.

Off the top of my head...
Gradius V
War of the Monsters
Frequency/Amplitude
Balder's Gate Dark Alliance I & II
Katamari Damacy/We Love Katamari
None of those are "big" titles though, but are unique to the PS2.

The suffering, manhunt and timesplitters are some good games. Also both the legacy of kain soul reaver 2 and blood omen 2 are some good games. Onimusha was a fav of mine and if you like sports games then I would check out NBA Street vol. 2.
