Does anyone know where I can get something like this? I can't find them on GGG or Ultimarc.

Most of these plates come with the stick...
-
I ordered the $9 Happ sticks from GGG and none were included.
-
The happ joysticks do not need a metal plate. The mounting plate is the molded plastic housing that is part of the stick.

Where's the rep button around here? Oh yeah...

Most, if not all of those, are part of their respective sticks. Those plates have been removed and photographed to illustrate the differences. :)

Thanks Randy, I just placed an order through you last night (Buttons, Joysticks, Spinner, 4-way). I knew the joysticks did not come with these plates, I just just looking for a way to do a hidden mount without carriage bolts, as I routed too deep in a spot or two. I'll still try it out with the mounting kit I ordered from you as well lol
Thanks for the link yotsuya. I really liked the mounting style of the bottom row, third one in. I thought it would be less risky to mount it to the underside of the panel, rather than in the routed square.

Check out the "Under mount (support blocks)" option here (http://newwiki.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?title=FAQ#Joysticks).
It will work well with the threaded inserts from GGG -- you don't need to use as many as EMDB did. ;D :lol

Very nice! My mind was headed that way but slightly different. I like this better. Too bad those plates aren't for sale lol

The easy version is to use two pieces of flat bar-stock instead of the square plate.

Those sticks are priced very reasonable. How are they, quality wise?

From what I see (I ordered mine with e-switches), they are the exact same ones in my Xbox 360 Mortal Kombat Fight Sticks, if you need a frame of reference. Personally, I like them. May not be smooth enough or too clicky for others.

I'm a little confused about how these plates are supposed to work. Surely they should be significantly bigger that the biggest joystick that they are designed to be used with (in this case the Happ Super and Competiton) so that there's room available to bolt them onto the wood? But from the picture on Paradise Arcade's site, it looks like the plate is about the same size as the competiton's build in plastic mounting plate.

They're really more for using any joystick with a Happ mounting hole pattern. The OP's request just asked for plates without giving a purpose.
-
Correct, I did not have a full purpose and I wasn't sure how to explain what I was looking for. I was aiming for something like Grasshopper described. Mount to the underside of the joystick, with overhang to bolt into the wood. These do not exactly do that, but may still help!

If you have Sanwas, you can try this: http://www.focusattack.com/sanwa-jlf-p1-s-mounting-plate/ (http://www.focusattack.com/sanwa-jlf-p1-s-mounting-plate/)

If you still have more than a half inch to play with, the mounting hardware should work. You'll just want to be very careful not to drill all the way through the panel when drilling for your inserts. Even if you have a little less material than you would like, if you have enough to get the inserts installed with a little protruding below, it will likely be enough to hold the stick securely. The threads on the inserts are quite large, so it should still provide enough holding power. They would basically just act like spacers, as well as something to screw into.
How thick is the panel, and how deep did you go?
-
Thanks Randy. Where do you get better customer service than this! Wood is 3/4 MDF, the thickest part I routed is about .375 inches, thinnest .25 inches.... I have a feeling I may be making a new control panel if I want to use those carriage bolts. First time building a panel, not a big deal. Here is the build, currently.

What I would do in a case like this is to first, try to make all of the pockets the same depth. Then, cut some 1" wide strips of wood, of the appropriate thickness and the length of the shorter dimension of the pocket, to get the total thickness in the mounting areas to over .5". Round two of the corners, if it helps to fit your pocket profile better. Apply a liberal amount of wood glue to the strip, and lay it in the pocket. Clamp, or apply weights until it dries completely. Then, you will be able to drill holes for the threaded inserts and mount your sticks.
Not the prettiest way to do things, but if you do it right, it will save the panel and you won't need to drill new holes for the shafts. From the top, no-one will ever know.
