I might be picking up a cab that has a 25" medium res monitor in it.
What options do I have for hooking this upto a PC ?
If I understand correctly the ArcadeVGA is no good as thats for standard res so would I have to use something like AdvancedMAME to get as close to original as possible, and what would be the downside of this.
Thank you for your help

I believe there's a driver available for the Trident Blade card that will correctly output to a medium res monitor.
Not sure of this part, but I'll throw it out anyway. There are only a handful of games that run on a medium res monitor, and I don't believe you'd be able to run the rest on it properly. Given the choice, I'd either find another cab, or figure on replacing the monitor with a TV or CGA monitor. You might check to see if the monitor has any use to the seller, they may be willing to remove it and lower the price on the cab without it.

Medium res is also known as EGA.

Many cards can output at 25kHz. See this modeline howto (http://easymamecab.mameworld.net/html/monitor1.htm) on how to achieve it.

A lot of med res monitors are switchable medium/standard res. You should find out what the monitor model is and look into that. You could possibly just switch it to standard res and use an arcade vga after all.

Let me see if i got it!
Medium res. monitors "suck" with arcade VGA but they're good with adapted drivers to standart graphic cards! That's odd indeed but a cash saviour also! 8)
Hum do you recommend 15hz monitors for arcade VGA cards! I might buy a cab with one! ;D

I have used a TBLADE Card with Medium rez monitors with DOS and Linux. It is a much better option than standard in my opinion.

Searching this message board you will find many references to medium resolution monitors being useless for an home cabinet. I feel this is false. Historically, the older 80's games were emulated first so many BYOAC-ers opted for a standard resolution monitor because of authenticity and availability.
Many games released in the 90's used medium resolution monitors. Some examples of hardware using 25kHz monitors are Sega System 24, Sega Model 1/2/3, Konami DJ-Main, Konami Hornet, Taito H-System, Atari System 2, Midway Quicksilver II, Midway Vegas and Midway Zeus II. That is a lot of games you cannot display authentic on a standard resolution monitor! As PC processor performance increases the chance of playing these boards in MAME will be become a reality in the coming years. Indeed, some of them are already in MAME.
Some facts:- With a capable videocard you can run medium res. games on a standard (15.7kHz) monitor but it won't display authentic.
- With a capable videocard you can run standard res. games on a medium (25kHz) monitor but it wont't display authentic.
- With a capable videocard you can drive any multisync (15/25kHz) monitor. These display authentic for all standard and medium resolution games.

...so the best choice is to go for a multisync monitor or a "standart res. one"! :)
Or am i wrong? :)
BTW this monitor issue is driving me nutzzzz! ???

The best choice is to go for multisync since it can display most games exactly like the arcade original.
