Title: Button inserts
Post by: Locke141 on October 23, 2014, 03:30:53 pm
Does any one have any links, files, or ideas for button inserts?

I got some printable over head blanks and really want to do something. I was thinking quarters for the coin buttons but don't know about player 1-4.

Sorry,

Forgot to post a pick. Gauntlet/beat'em up's

It's being repainted now with Gauntlet flames between each color. The second pic was from some early concept art but the flames are about what I want. The buttons above regular 6 are the coin's and player buttons.

No worries. You could maybe make little versions of that face but color it to match the player?

That's not a bad idea at all. PS its the dragon head from the original CP.

This is a great idea. If we could compile a whole sheet or two of icons and such that would fit 30mm and 24mm buttons, we could print them ourselves on overhead projector paper and cut using a zacto compass. It would skip the need for paying a "professional" to do it. I could even organize a pdf to print if people have some vector art they want to help contribute. Possibly source some free vector art too?

Another option would be some kind of icon.  If you want to keep the Gauntlet theme going (which I love) you could do a green colored bow and arrow, red axe, blue sword, yellow fireball.

Check out this thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,134455.msg1389192.html#msg1389192) for a PDF with LED button inserts.

I posted the image source files for the PDF here (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,135137.msg1395136.html#msg1395136).

The downside to using overhead transparencies for LED button inserts is that they can turn freely under the cap. (ask me how I know  ::) )

IMHO Avery 8665 or 18665 stickers are the better way to go and easier to trim than transparencies.

You may also want to use a tiny bit of gel superglue to keep the diffuser from rotating -- please observe the obligatory "CSI warning" here (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,134501.0.html).

Winner! All I need to do now is make that stuff.

Noted. If I can find some in Tanzania I'll use that

That's the winner right there. Whoever said something about using the face for the buttons is a dumbshit.

I think that is a bit over harsh  :)

I got inserts from SlammedNiss that were superb.  Well worth it and he was able to make some small modifications for me with no problem!

Here's a screen shot of some vector art I made for prototyping. I.E. I vectored some clip art to see if I liked the theme.

I don't like the sword, it should be simpler. He-Man perhaps.

The axe and the bow look great I think.

The sword, I tend to agree with you.  The style is a lot more ornate than the rest of the weapons.

For the fireball it seems scaled a bit large, I might slim it down some and add more of a tail?  It seems to overwhelm the other three.

I went and looked at the original and found a sword that matches much better. I'll play around with the sizing and cleaning it all up a bit.

Nice, that looks great!

Are you going to color the weapons?  the backgrounds? both?

I made custom ones using glossy labels on mine right under my coin door slots.  I based it on the black one and modified it in photoshop into 4 different colors.  Let me know if you need the files, I have them saved in Photoshop.

I just got around to finishing my sheet of inserts and just wanted to see what you all think.

The Axe, bow, and the single sword or the crossed swords are for p1-4 and one set of coins for the coin are for this build. I thought if I am going to print a full page I should fill it with inserts I may want down the road.

Looking good - Are you going to be using RGB buttons ? - If not you might want to color the backgrounds rather than white\transparent

Not RGB, but dedicated single colored LED buttons. Green, Blue, Red, & Yellow one for each player. I should probably color some of the other for unplanned future needs.

I liked the green in the TMNT and the blue in the crossed He-man & thunder cats swords so I went a head and added them to the larger file.

I came out grate. I just put a little stick glue on the defuser to keep them from spinning.

Here are a few pic's in my test rig. The photos don't do it justice.

Note: There are printable transparencies for laser printers and ones for ink jets. The laser printers ones won't work well in a ink jet and the ink jet one will melt to the diffuser in your laser printer. I used one made for copiers that have defusers.

Those came out great!  Nice work.

I like that the Sword of Omens made the final cut.  I'm a total nerd for saying this (but if I can't admit that here, where can I?) I still love that show.

Thanks,

The He-cats is not for the gauntlet/beat'em up build. I am woking on ideas for a fight stick. and a He-man Thunder cats combo is one Idea I'm kicking around.

Let me know if you want a copy I can send a PDF.

I'm perhaps late to this party, but I've been using http://game-icons.net/tags/weapon.html (http://game-icons.net/tags/weapon.html) site for prototyping board game artwork, and it's free to use.  You might find a better (thicker looking) bow, and simpler sword and such.

Thanks for the link, I would have probably used that site if I could have found ones that fit what I was going for. In the end I am happy I did it my self. By "my self" I mean vectoring someone else's work I found on line.
