Does an 8-way joy have 8 switches, or does it work using AND logic?
IE: Up AND left = Diagonal
I'm trying to figure out which I-PAC to buy, so I'm counting my inputs :)

It only has 4 microswitches, so 4 inputs per encoder.
See http://www.fraggersxtreme.com/arcadepanels/encoder/index.htm for a comparison of encoders, along with info on number of inputs, for example, you only need 4 buttons for Players 3 and 4, for Arcade games. (Console emu's are a different story.

Just realized you're also the 3-joystick guy.
Remember you can wire the 4-way joy to the same inputs as the Left 8-way, saving you 4-inputs. (At the expense that bumping the wrong stick will mess up your game.)

Thanks for the reply Tiger.
Yes, I'm the three joy guy, but I'm now considering keeping it to two, to prevent CP clutter.
You can easily operate a joy that's slightly off center for single player games, without the need for a dedicated stick.
It looks like I'll be able to get by with the smaller I-PAC.
Cheers.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at in my reply in your other thread.

There's also the KeyWiz from www.groovygamegear.com

But Cheers is a pretty European sign-off, so maybe the reason for the Ultimarc leaning.
No worries
(and no, I'm not for Ozland).
