Title: Primal Rage Bad ROM replacement?
Post by: 8way on October 18, 2014, 09:31:40 am
Ok, I got a Primal Rage PCB and everything works, except some of the character sprites are missing. So I ran a diagnostics in the test menu and it showing a bad ROM at MOH0.0. This is a 32pin chip and it has a part # 136102-0317. Anybody know were I can get this or if it possible to replace it with a EPROM?

You may want to check http://hobbyroms.com/ (http://hobbyroms.com/) -- many good reviews by KLOVers IIRC.

Thanks for the info, but the chip is not a standard EPROM. I have the ability to flash my own EPROM's that's not a problem. I just need to know if this chip can be replaced with a EPROM. I can't seem to find any info on it, except that its 1MB 32pin PROM chip.

Tha's all the info written on the chip. Any ideas?

OK, so I  messaged him and im waiting on a reply. Meanwhile i found a spare 27C010 and programed it with the correct rom. Unfortunately it did not work. It actually made it worse, visually could not see a difference, but when running a diagnostics it now shows multiple bad roms. This is the same behavior if you do not put in a rom at all at MOH0.0 location. So it looks like the pinouts are definitely different. So im really hopping someone can shed some light on this problem.

Made some progress thanks to Steph, turns out a made an error with the whole bit-to-byte as he was nice enough to point out. So I ordered some 27C801 witch should work nicely. I'll report back when it arrives.

Made a strange discovery today, not sure what to think of this. So I ran Primal Rage in MAME and did a diagnostics and WTF it shows the same error on ROM MOH0.0. How can this be ??? Can someone with a working board confirm they get a green pass on all the ROMS in the video section of the diagnostics? So now I'm pretty confident that its not a bad ROM, just don't know what it could be. Any ideas?
