Title: Bought a Ridge Racer sitdown cab today...
Post by: APFelon on December 13, 2003, 07:05:30 pm
Yep. Bought it for a mere 425$. That is a bargain, considering how much some folks on the Internet want for one. Great shape, new monitor. I should be happy. I'm not.

I can't fit it in my friggin' door. I took off all of the plex. No good. It is too wide by about 1 inch. It just won't go. On top of that, it looks as though the cabinet is bowed at the top, so I need more than an inch most likely.

Right now it is sitting in sub-freezing temperatures on the patio of my walk-out basement sliding door. Brr. I know it won't be damaged by the cold (if it snows, that'll be a different story, though) unless I plug it in immediately when (IF) I get it inside.

I can't get to it until the kids go to bed now. The thought of a 425$ investment sitting outside exposed to the elements is just killing me.

Just thought I'd share that with you all.

Most sliding patios doors are really easy to remove both doors from the frame.   Generally the sliding one lifts and then pops out, and there are two screws (one top, one bottom) holding the other into place, remove them, slide it over a little and it lifts up and out.  Be careful, they are glass, and while generally tempered, they still break.  Worse each panel is heavy.

Anderson sends their patio doors in parts and you put it togather, everyone else send the whole thing (which is heavy) as one unit, but often you can still remove those doors.

If I were helping you unload that machine I wouldn't let you stop me from removing the panels.  I've also installed several patio doors (I worked as a carpender for a few months), so I have an idea how to do it.   The only thing that should slow you down is the weather, it will get cold in the house while you do this.

Bah. I looked for those screws, and I came to the conclusion that the fixed panel is siliconed in to place. Arrrrgh! I was so hoping that the scenario you outlined was the case for my door.

Sleep tight, little cabinet. It is going to be a cold, long night.

Well, if anyone is interested, I ended up taking the whle cabinet apart-- Busted the side panels off with a rubber mallet and brough it in to the house piece by piece. Surprisingly, it took less time to reassemble than disassemble. Probably because I didn't have to chisel out staples when I reassembled it.

The supports are gone, so I don't want to put the 33 inch monitor back in yet (HEAVY!) until I put some L-brackets in to replace the old wooden support "sticks". My three year old is nagging me to death to play it, so a trip to a hardware store is in my near future.

I got it inside the house just in time. We had freezing rain here, followed by heavy snow. Whew!

Here it is disassembled... All that is left is the base, the coin pillar, and the main shelf. (the cab is laying on its side)

Great to see you got the cab you wanted! Looks like it was a job to get it in though :)

Ain't it cool? It is on hold while I finish up my finals (two papers due by Friday, and here I am on this forum) but I can't wait to get to it). Some of the plex is a bit ragged, but I think it'll be okay. Maybe I'll price some crap out from Namco (hah. One arm, two legs, and five hundred dollars please).

Space Cadet- Here you go.

Having seen this, I figured I'd chime in......OVERSTOCK is still selling those Logitech PS2 and PC force-feedback wheels for less than $50 bucks a pop, refurbed.

The CP on my cap has a nice lip along the front edge which makes it totally easy to mount this wheel.......

For those of you who do NOT want to go the dedicated route, or just dont have the space, I gotta say picking up some good driving games and playin em on your mamecab's PC is stupid, stupid fun :)

right now I have my PS2 hooked up to that same TV and thats what I'm drivin with......amazingly fun.

While its not the best wheel for mame games like Off Road or other spinner games, fact is games like need for speed hot Pursuit on the PC (and others) are just amazing.......and of course if you have PS2....

I have a Logitech USB wheel that I finally hooked up to my cab last night.  It grips the edge of my new CP just fine (although I had to make a protector for the trackball).  Outrun and Outrunners work great with this! I was even able to finally play Hard Drivin' properly!

I'm trying to figure out how to create a similar clamping mechanism in wood so I can build a housing for my Pole Position wheels and shifter.
