Title: Computer connection
Post by: the_bert_of_q on December 12, 2003, 05:47:28 pm
I was reading through some tutorials and I was wondering what actually connects the computer to the trackball or joystick & buttons.  From what I gather to this point it's a matter of using a regular computer system.. hiding the mouse and keyboard within the cabinet for changing up the games as you wish.  Are there any special connections that are needed to be used inside the computer to make everything run?

Actually, you need something called an "Encoder."

Quote
What is a keyboard encoder?

A keyboard encoder accepts digital inputs from push buttons and joysticks and simulates keyboard key presses

Ultimarc makes encoders (I-PAC, OptiPAC) - www.ultimarc.com
and KeyWiz makes them - www.groovygamegear.com
Hagstrom also carries encoders, but they are more expensive - www.hagstromelectronics.com

There is a website around here somewhere which reviews/rates each one of these, so I hope someone can supply it...
