Title: uk coin mech accepting 10p coins - help!
Post by: Jimbo on September 17, 2014, 08:44:56 am
Hi all,

I'm after a uk coin mech that accepts 10p coins.  I want to use an authentic looking coin door, e.g.
http://www.arcadeworlduk.com/products/sega-single-entry-up-and-over-coin-door-with-cash-box.html (http://www.arcadeworlduk.com/products/sega-single-entry-up-and-over-coin-door-with-cash-box.html)

This is the mech that goes with that:
http://www.arcadeworlduk.com/products/calle-3-5-inch-mechanical-coin-mechanism.html (http://www.arcadeworlduk.com/products/calle-3-5-inch-mechanical-coin-mechanism.html)
BUT... as you can see it does not accept the new 2013 nickel-plated steel 10p coins.

I called them up and have been told a new mech is due out in a few weeks, but this one will only accept the new nickel-plated 10ps... and not the old ones.

Does anyone have a clue where to get an authentic looking arcade coin door in the UK with a mech that accepts both the old and new 10p coins? (i.e. doesn't check the metal content)?

Thanks!

While i don't know about your coin specifically (i live in canada) we have had a metallurgical change to our coins recently.

Provided your coin hasn't changed weight or size, it should go through the acceptor just the same.

The different metal means the magnet in the square portion of the acceptor is grabbing the coin and stopping it (thinking it's a slug)

remove the screw and discard the magnet and the metal retainer and screw.

your coins should feed fine then. if they still don't i would suspect your coin has changed weight and you will need a simplee size comparator like a "imonex" brand such as the v9 series. not sure if you can get a 10p size from them. but it's the sytle you would need.

it simply separates coins by diameter making it accept all manner of coin regardless of weight or metal content (also washers and slugs of the same diameter as well though.)
