i have a mega touch touch screen game with the sapphire 2 hard drive it worked great i unplugged it for about a week to paint the wall it was against plunged it back in and i guess the battery was bad in it so i replaced it said to set date and time i did then it proceeded to boot up then at the second boot screen it stopped and said
code 28 83 e2 fc 89 54 24 cl 83 89 4c 24 28 8b 54 24 28 83 e2 fc
Kernal panic: Attempted to kill inlt
im still learning about arcade games but i learn things very fast any help would be greatly appreciated

Surprised lilshawn or ed12 have not replied yet.
Anyway, My first guess would be hard drive related. It could be that the files on the hard drive are corrupted. Or the hard drive developed bad sectors and the files that are trying to load that are located in those sectors are damaged (corrupted). This would explain why its trying to load but fails with a kernel panic. Think if it like a music cd that skips at certain times of a song. Thats usually because theres a scratch or smudge on the cd. Thats similar to bad sectors on a hard driver. Hope that helps explain your issue.
Now things you can try to fix it:
1. buy a Sapphire hard drive.
2. try to reinstall sapphire software onto problem hard drive.
1. is most easy, but expensive.
2. is cheap, but time consuming.
If you try 2. theres a slight chance that a reinstall will copy the data onto good sectors and not the bad sectors. Think of this like windows feature reallocating hard drive.
-
That's what I was leaning towards. Just did not want to spend wasted money on not bad parts. I do not have the disks to re flash my hard drive. Will most likely search eBay for a "good" used one
-
sorry mike i was away....:[and miss on the public fourm's,shawn is under snow right now]
u are correct bad sector/sector's
i guess the op dose not read real well ? there is no SUCH THING AS A RESQUE DISK FOR MERIT OF THAT AGE,op the reason is simple so listen colse
MERIT did the mbr,it was never i and i mean never made public..
U do want a new harddrive,
now onto the country u are in >key code here is very very important< canada or usa ?
if canada i can and will help u out..DOUBT ME ALL U WANT... but the MBR was never made public..either use the backup-.dat in linux to repair your drive or just buy a re-do
make sure before u drop your flea-bay pennies of 2 thing's
the key code and country
ed
-
now i am going to give u a hudge hint....
any and i mean any maxx up to >ruby< will share the merit overlay i spoke of..
this is a god send for u,beacuse then all u need it the proper s/w for the :key-code:,
this will NEVER INCLUDE A RESQUE DISK AS THERE IS NO SUCH THING..
sa-xxxx-xx>key code #,it is printed right on the key< to match your s/w u want to load, and it will take it easy piseie like..
there is some info there MERIT IN THE EVERY LONVING MIND NEVER HANDED OUT
ed
-
Thank you for the info. I am in the US looks like finding a used HD with key would be the easiest way to fix the issue
-
Actually, I think he can use 2004/2004.5 force install discs to reinstall. I dont have the discs to test this theory. Also dont have a MAXX motherboard. :(
-
hmm i have never tried that 1..? nice tip i will give it a go..
also worth note,op in trouble do not throw out your old hard drive, reason is simple,
with it booting that far it mean's the overlay >mbr< is still intact, with that and some handy
copying s/w u can snap shot the overlay, and repair the bad sectors's..
also try this trick.
switch #3 and either 7 or 8 turn them on,well game is trying to boot,
this fource's it to a full reload state which may or may not re-load the drive from the backup.dat
ed
-
I'm guessing when you say switch #3 your talking about turning on dip switch 3 and ither 7 or 8 as it's trying to boot up
-
yes sw#3 and either 7 or 8
but 3 must be on,
so turn on sw#3 leave it on,then test with #7 or #8
all the time leaving sw#3 on
once u find the combo, leave the 2 switch's on as the game will telll u to do..
now please rember this is going to be a hit and miss, might or might not work :dunno
but worth the try
ed
-
Tried both ways 3 on then flip 7 did nothing tried 8 nothing. Tried a few other combos still did nothing was worth a shot Theo :dunno
-
well it was worth the shot..
ya your drive has gone south
just be careful with your flea-bay money
if the drive is to be shipped, because of there age make sure to request foam packing
or such to take the shock
ed
-
shawn is under snow right now
:lol
not bad today... supposed to be 25 again. Weather can't make up it's damn mind.
that drive is long overdue for toast. heck, i have drives 5 years newer that are crapped out. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it has.
you will need to obtain another drive. word round the campfire is when they went from maxx to force, they just copied the same software and have it detect if it's maxx or force and display the appropriate splash screens.
-
Ok finally got time to mess with my game a little more got the new hard drive. Still has the same error now what ?? :banghead:

If its not the hard drive (which im surprised) Then it must be a setting in the bios. Like i have mentioned, I do not have maxx mobo so you will need to wait for ed or shawn to chime in here.
Only other suggestion, or test i would do to really narrow down the problem would be to connect the hard drive, touchscreen, and IO board to a working computer. If everything is working it would load init and start running scripts. Then would probably go to a blank screen or a error screen because it detects the mobo is not the one its looking for.
One thing i can say is these old motherboards are very picky when it comes to newer or older hardware. I have a i810 mobo that for some reason will not boot a CF card attached to a CF to IDE adapter. I have force software loaded on this CF card and it boots fine with a few other i810 mobo's. It just wont boot on this one for some reason.
I have another that boots it for a few seconds but all the text is jumbled. Very strange issues that make no sense.
-
god i fell like crap..that aside why do i c cd/boot kernel kill?
the last line where it is hanging..
bois and shut down the cdrom call
and the floppy
make the harddrive olny boot device
ed

this apply's across the board
HARD DRIVE ERROR MESSAGES
Ion \ Force \ Maxx \ XL
· Disc Boot Failure: Indicates a defective hard drive.
· Operating System Not Found: Check the IDE ribbon cable from HD to motherboard. May indicate a defective HD.
· Critical Error, Abort, Retry, Fail: Indicates a defective hard drive or IDE ribbon cable.
· CRC Error Reading Drive C: Indicates a defective hard drive.
· Smart Failure: Indicates a defective hard drive.
· Bad Command or File Name: This may indicate a corrupted hard drive or motherboard. (Corrupt CMOS)
Note: Reloading the CDs\DVD may help correct the “BAD COMMAND or FILE NAME” error.
Note: Performing a CMOS configuration may also help correct a “BAD COMMAND or FILE NAME” error.
Ion:
· Kernel panic VFS unable to mount FS 30.5: Hard drive is connected to the Secondary IDE port.
Needs to be connect Primary IDE port (light blue connector)

Kernal panic: Attempted to kill inlt
That's the LAst 2 lines on the screen

As I go threw the setup menus I notice it's only reading 64 mb of memory is that even enough to boot the hard drive ?
-
yup
do u have a stick of it laying around ?
it's old as it get's..
if not we may do this mike's way
and see if we get past the error and on to the few i know will show up
ed
-
i knew i would come across this
just had to dig..dont know if shawn added it or not
ed

yes, i linked a bunch of doc in this thread...
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130288.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130288.0.html)
There was (is) some issues with uploading to the repository so there is some stuff, but not everything linked.

i now
just thought i would throw it out there for the @
ed

Nothing in that tech manual mentioning kernel panic error codes.
Somebody send me a post Emerald key. Doesnt matter which as long as its Maxx based. I bet i can get these Maxx versions running off any old hardware. That includes any hard drives aswell.
-
Re configured it. Tried a different ribOn from drive to board no help tried new memorie card no help tried re booting using hard drive only. Still stops wile trying to load kernel
-
welp we could try it mikes way
i am game if u guy's are
ed
-
ya merit neve let the kernel error code's out
u had to make your own cheat list

Why dont you just convert to ION? You can reuse the monitor and touch glass. You just need a EXII capacitive microtouch controller, ASUS A7n8x mobo and 2007 or 2008 ion key. Maybe even 2009 key but im not sure if 2009 defaults to high res(800x600) or low res (640x480) the 13" monitor needs to be low res.
I think 2010+ dont have option for low res so 2008 or 2009 is limit.

wait a sec here
mike dropped u the hint..about 10 or 12 post's back
just put the hardrive into any mobo u have
it will error..but it should get past the sub boot error u have,
u c the kill kernel is getting called for a reason...we need to know the reason
seem's to me u are putting the crat in front of the horse,
let's take a look here,u bought a new or rather used harddrive
same key,same mobo,same riser,cleaned the ram,so we are left
with very few question's that need to be adressed..are u sure is new harddrive was working ?
1 bang on them old thing's will make them do the same thing >post-boot<
surley to god u have a spare pc there ?,just place th merit harddrive in it
un-hook any cd-rom's/floppy's,leave keyboard and mouse hooked up,along with
the monitor..and watch to see if the hd goes past sub boot routine
if it dose? alow it to error out :and it will:,then u know u need a mobo or raiser or both
u will need to spec the mobo, merit used 3-x type's in them year's
it is right in the pdf i posted for u
personaly i have 3-x of them i care less about
but i am not about to pay shipping..
mike need's some max key's..deal with canadian code i can hook the bother up
but i ill not pay for shipping.
let's get to the bottom of your problem, and i will send u anything u need..i enough of them.
ed
-
Im in the process of moving ed. But as soon as im settled in (a few weeks) I will paypal you some money for shipping if you want to send me a maxx mobo (any does not matter) and any maxx key you have. Ruby or higher would be nice.
I have 2011 force and 2012 ion. I just want to have a maxx rig setup to help others trouble shoot theirs. And maybe even find ways to bypass the hardware security checks so we can use non official hard drives and motherboards. I just need an entry point to follow the cookie crumbs. >:D
-
offer stands..your money is a no...shipping is
as i said i will not pay for shipping
the parts are on the table
key's also
i will send pkg post due
if >usa< usps
>as it always works for me<
take your time on the move i am going no where any time soon
ed
-
mike if i may?
no key code and or layer code's are to be posted
this can go e-me
but never never open public >code<
i know the box and understand it,but i set the hammer down with >talk<
my code getting sold when i would have given it for free up to 5.1
i was just asked,i concour,part's are your's if u want them ?
let's get this guy's box fixed
understand the stance please
ed
-
I do not release any copyright code. But i will tell you this... This hard drive "layer" you speak of is actually interesting because i wonder if they were given permission to modify the hard drive manufactures model/serial information. If not, they would be in the wrong just as much as anyone else trying to get around this hard drive problem.
-
Ok I tore apart my computer tried both hard drives in the computer booted both of them up to the invalid key for version bla bla bla screen So I'm guessing I have a bad mobo?
-
yup
your mobo is south
this was the test i wanted u to do before u bought a new harddrive
when i was looking through my crib note's i came across the error
but mike pointed u the right way...
so now u need a mobo or micro >i am leaning toward's mobo<,u are in ausa land ?
down under ? or are u usa bound ?,my offer stand's but i will not pay shipping
mike merit had a understanding with drive mfg's over the layer issuie, when they stopped
doing it >radion day's<,they lost there right's
ed
-
Yes USA. Ohio to be exact pm me you pay pal infromation
-
i can ship postage due
let me get one and a riser card
what mobo do u need as pre the pdf i up-loaded for u ?
and send mike the key's
ed
-
spt motherboard 16532931
Pc382/f
-
ok i will dig 1 out for u
hope u do not mind me testing it ?
which i do think i have a 1 running right now
rember these are of no use to me
so when we get u hooked up and going a :) is all
ed
-
Sounds good
-
ya it's on heat run...
u are getting complete mobo and riser
when u get it u olny have to plug in the riser and place your key in it
of course along with your hard drive
about that simple
ed

I tracked down a newer style mother board and was able to get the game working again seems to have fixed the problem. For now
