I honestly hope I am not out of line by requesting this, so please have patience as you read. :)
For starters, I am so overwhelmed right now ... I'm not sure what to do from here. I've been taking things slow and trying to soak up as much information as I can before I officially start my CAB, but things took a major turn ... and I must build ... now! :'(
This is where I beg someone to sort of take me under their wing and work with me long enough to just get started and then I can fly on my own ... so please ... any takers? :)
Not including a few tools, and other odds and ends ... this is my package thus far.
1 empty ( and I mean completely gutted ) decent cabinet
1 Electrohome G07 19" monitor
1 Isolation Transformer ...
Before I even think of a PC or video card, I'd like to get the basics down first.
I am eager to learn, not to mention a fast learner to boot.
Anyone have an interest in tutoring me for a short while?
Thanks in advance.
Michael

I went the build from scratch road and I am using a PC monitor. But if you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them.good luck

Just ask any questions you need answers to here in this thread...
We'll all chip in & you shouldn't walk away with any questions unanswered.
It can all be put together in a week, or it can get spread out over months...
It's all up to you... (& getting the supplies you need... PC, the right video card, Controls, T-Molding, panel clamps, etc, etc, etc....)
We're here to help... (I believe that;s why this board was created...) ;)

This is the most helpful and newbie-friendly board I've ever seen. The best way to find out your information would be to:
1) Create a task list.
2) Ask specific questions regarding each task.
That's what I'm doing, I'm pretty much in your boat.

I sincerely thank all of you who replied. I had some help today from another member on the board, as well as the guy I purchased the monitor from. It looks to be a long road, at least for me anyway. I know absolutely nothing about electricity or wiring ... thus being pretty much crippled until I get the PC in there.
I was told my best bet would be to start the cab as a regular JAMMA cab, wiring and all ... then I can go back and add the Jpac and AVGA to complete the MAME aspect of the project.
Would that be the least expensive route? I wish now that I waited to get a monitor that didn't require an ISO. But that G07 is so nice ... ZERO burn in ... and it was originally from a Dragon's Lair game, which would explain no burn.
Should I keep this monitor and ISO and do the wiring that way, or try and trade for another 19" newer model?

This is what I have so far ... listwise. Anything y'all would add or take away?

I'm not going to comment on the idea that you mentioned a Tron cabinet...
(There are people that wouls Maim you if they knew you converted a clasic...
Just don't do anything ir-reversable...

Just for the record y'all .... I'm not converting , defacing , or any other form of hacking up this cabinet...
It's been mentioned that people might show a little distaste for my MAMEing such a cab , but I'll have you know this cab was about 3hrs from hitting the trash, and I picked it up.
Pricewise, it's not even conceivable to think of restoring this cab to the original. It has already been way too hacked long before I picked it up. The only thing one can really do to this cab is ...
(1) Try and design something decent, add an arcade monitor,PC, and have some classic fun ...
or
(2) Mount a TV, DVDplayer, and small receiver and make this one helluva entertainment center. :)
The latter option was decided by my roommate, who still insists on my being crazy for even thinking one can truly BYOAC. ::)
Now I'm a pain in the @$$, and I ask a boatload full of questions, but please...don't for one second, think I'm going to ruin this cab.
I take pride in my work, and I put 300% into everything I do. It is my intention to design a MAMEcab, that like the other projects on this board...will be something we can all appreciate.
Bottom Line .... I like it here, I would never do anything to jeopardize my status on the board, nor do anything to disrespect y'all. :)

First of all, there is no such thing as 300%. ;D No really, there isn't. I mean it.
Secondly, you need buttons, I'm your man. Let me know what you need. Quantity, Color, etc. You helped me out on those WICO leaf sticks and they are going to work AWESOME in my Omega MAME. Shoot me an email -
