Does anyone here have any ps2 modding experience?
I just picked up a ps2 for dirt cheap. I want to install free mcboot. I know you can install it on the memory card
But I want to put in an hdd and mod that to be able to play backups from the hdd.
My question is will I also be able to play backups on dvds with just a modded hdd and not a modded memory Card?
Just wondering if anyone here would know since this is the only forum I use.

I had mcfreeboot for my ps2. I was only ever able to get it to run off the memory card as it was designed to do so. but I was able to get games to play from the hdd but it has been a while since I messed with it all. im sure a google search will turn up more answers.

I think you can boot the DVD from McBoot, but you'd have to go through the memory card menu, you cant just put the burned game in the drive , turn the PS2 on and play.
Question begs, why would you want to burn media when you can copy games to an internal/external drive?

I just wanted to know if it was still an option because I hear some games don't play well from the hdd but idk. I'm just going to mod my memory card
Or get a pre modded one.

that's good. I really want to use a sub external hard drive. Do you know if there are any limits to this? Like how large the drive can be or how many games it can load?

I dont recall the specifics, but I have like 40 games on my external and a dozen or so on the internal. I dont use my PS2 much, now that I can load PS2ISOs on my modded BC PS3

well I guess it won't hurt to try and figure it out for myself. I found 007 angents under fire for 2 dollars on eBay. I will use that to install free mcboot.

are you getting freemcboot and xbox soft modding mixed up?
I used a gameshark to do my free mcboot

I was just under the impression that ps2 hardrives could be modded to play backups.
If you are referring to 007. It works with softmodding ps2.

You use the same game to softmod ps2. I bought it from gamestop for like a buck. still have the copy I use to install mcfreeboot. tho it does require a hot swap.
And to answer the other question some games aren't compatible for HDD install. there is some patches you can get to make them work but few still that done work with playing from HDD

I downloaded an ISO that created the HDD via a programand it works fine in my PS2 FAT. I also copied from the FAT the MCboot onto the memory card and it boots in the PS2 slim. I looked on You Tube for my assistance with the modding. There are a few gems in there that can help.
