Total newbie here. Looking to build a Mame setup with a PC loaded Mame hidden under my bar, Xarcade control on top of bar, then buying a Flat Screen TV to hang over bar to be the monitor.
Reading on this site and many others, about different refresh rates and so on that are good or bad to use.
The seller for some of the parts I am buying said I mainly just need a VGA input for the TV.
So my question is, what is the best model or specs I need to be looking at to buy for this setup listed above. Probably something in the 30-34" TV size I am thinking.
Thanks,

So something like this? (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=137637.0) or this (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,134038.msg1381490.html#msg1381490)?
Also: Standby to be talked out of the xarcade.

Naw, for what you want to do, an xarcade is fine. >:D

If you are just gonna use a modern flat tv and computer, just go with HDMI connection. It is becoming standard on graphics cards and it works.

Yes, I got the take from reading the forums, the Xarcarde stick might not be popular, but I think it will work best, mounting it to this smaller bar we have. Currently a wine rack and turntable are on there.
That Ninja Turtles setup is quite nice and kind of how I see mine turning out, setup wise, not artwork wise.
But for the TV, I didnt see any details on what he used. Any suggestions on a good flatscreen to use?

It's fine for what you want to do. If you were building your own cabinet, it would be a different story.

In the pbj turtlebox thread someone says that looks like the same 37" Vizio I have. pbj never countered so that is what I guessed. In severdhed thread, he says a 42" TV in the beggining and you can see its a vizio.
I think the answer comes down to where you are going to mount it? In a place you will only play games? Get the largest inexpensive TV you can. Don't forget to factor in the cost of the mount. I didn't realize there was such a range until I priced them.
If you are going to watch sportsball or movies, get something a little nicer. Or take the one out of the living room for this game and upgrade the main living room TV.

If looking for 30-34" Walmart has a decent Vizio 32 incher for $218 ( http://www.walmart.com/ip/VIZIO-E320-B2-32-720p-60Hz-Full-Array-LED-HDTV/33054564 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/VIZIO-E320-B2-32-720p-60Hz-Full-Array-LED-HDTV/33054564) ) which should work well.

Thanks all for the help.
It will be used strictly for the MAME, no movies or tv. The person I would buy the preprogrammed PC says he just recommends VGA input, but I guess I can always get a VGA to HDMI cable.
My only concern was some of the posts I have seen talking about refresh rates for certain games and some TV's not being good for running MAME. I do realize I want to find an inexpensive unit, since I won't be watching blu rays or hdtv with. Going to look at his setup tomorrow and go from there.

What most folks are trying to get at but nobody is outright saying is that it pretty much doesn't matter. You can use nearly any TV or monitor and it will work just fine as long as it will plug into your computer. Unless you are trying for original arcade authenticity that is.

Are you sure you want to go the route of pre-programmed PC? I get that it can be work to set up, but sometimes the effort of setting it up yourself will be worthwhile. The minute something goes wrong, you will know enough about how everything works to fix the problem yourself.

Monoprice.com usually has some decent prices on the wall mounts ( http://www.monoprice.com/Search/Index?keyword=TV+WALL+MOUNT (http://www.monoprice.com/Search/Index?keyword=TV+WALL+MOUNT) )

Haha, I am gonna be mounting a monoprice wall mount tomorrow. So far, the quality looks impressive, and the price was great.
Those cheetah mounts on amazon didn't look too bad either.

Well setup is complete on my bar. Thanks for the help.
I ended up going with the 40" Seiki tv from HH Gregg, only $240, a Omnimount from ebay $50 and the Tankstick.
Works great. Has been a big hit so far, especially after mounting the Tankstick onto the bartop so it doesn't slide around.
Great investment, especially for the sons.
Thanks again for the help all.
