In my future cabinet I'm planning on doing RGB LED buttons. However I remember seeing some buttons someone did where they used a translucent pushbutton and replaced the middle plunger with a normal opaque color button so that only the outer ring is what lights up. Anyone have links to this or some video on how it looks, etc?

Great. Now they do. I wish i would have thought to ask for that.
You are welcome to look at my cp to see what the buttons look like without an LED in them.

It would be nice to have black-rimmed LED (either single-color or RGB) admin buttons with diffusers and decent-sized inserts that are close to the same profile as the player buttons instead of these sawed-off volcano-wannabe's. :(

You can mix-and-match IL buttons, but the insert size is 56% smaller -- 0.640" (0.321536 sq. in.) instead of 0.850". (0.5671625 sq. in.)
How hard can it be to get the body of the buttons that almost every vendor carries (below) cast in black plastic? (No new mold needed.) :soapbox:

Wait.... the illuminated buttons are a different profile than the standard arcade buttons? I thought they were all the same profile??
Whose button is in the middle?

The people who would notice are the same ones that look at a DK cab and immediately notice that the buttons are repros (like the orange) because they are 1mm shorter than the originals. (like the blue)

They are very close, but the bezel on the LED is more angular, where the bezel on other pushbuttons (IL/Arcade Prime/Goldleaf/Sanwa/Seimitsu) are more round.

Left to right: GGG Arcade Prime (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=351&zenid=eeqqrbhsnn2g4ff7u2bdsfiv80), Paradise White Convex LED Lighted Arcade Pushbutton (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/led-buttons/234-white-led-convex-arcade-pushbutton.html), Paradise White Black Rimmed Convex LED Lighted Arcade Pushbutton (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/led-pushbuttons/673-white-led-convex-arcade-pushbutton-black-rimmed.html).
I can live with them being in the same ballpark, but the one on the right isn't even the same sport. :lol

I've decided it's IL/Happs, or nothing. I had the middle ones and ultimately didn't care for them.

They're great for admin buttons with inserts, but I wouldn't want to use one as a fire button for Galaga.

Can you paste the link? They have a lot of buttons, I'm not sure which is which.
Also, on the Beast, when you have the player 1/2 start buttons, do the little white player icons light up at all?

And no, the player icon imprints do not light up.

Okay so I found the buttons here: http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/324-il-translucent-buttons (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/324-il-translucent-buttons)
How does this work regarding assembly? You need this: http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/il-translucent-buttons/809-clear-il-translucent-pushbutton-psl-l.html (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/il-translucent-buttons/809-clear-il-translucent-pushbutton-psl-l.html)
And then what do you use for the LED? I see an option to use this ring: http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/button-leds/580-pele-30mm-led-rings.html (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/button-leds/580-pele-30mm-led-rings.html)
Or this (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/button-leds/100-il-lumination-rgb-5vdc-led.html (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/button-leds/100-il-lumination-rgb-5vdc-led.html)) which I assume goes inside the pushbutton?
On that ring, why are there so many leads? I am counting 8 connectors... The ring has 2 LEDs, is that so you can light up each one with different colors?
Anyone have pictures of these products in action? I curious as to the visual difference between the ring vs the internal LED solution. Also I'm curious on what it looks like with the 2 ring LEDs being two different colors.

Not the cheapest option, but GGG (Groovy Game Gear) has Clear pushbuttons. I don't think they are on the website, but you can email them for availability. If you combine that with black (or whichever color you want) pushbuttons you can achieve the same effect. As far as I know, GGG doesn't offer the option to combine clear with a colored button like Paradise Arcade Shop. But, you might ping GGG to see if that is an option or not.

Have you looked through the LED button roundup thread here (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,121965.0.html)?
It shows an earlier version of the IL-lumination LEDs and the Pele rings.
