Title: Antique apparatus
Post by: hmasuh on September 02, 2014, 10:04:09 am
Hi everyone!
I bought an Antique apparatus Gazelle Jukebox here in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
It just played 10 songs, then send to me the message Cheksum error=A400.
First of all, this was completely new for me, I´m scientist and work in insect behavior :)
Then, I tried to find some technician to repair it, but this field is not very developed in my country, and we have a lot of "specialist" flying around.
Reading this forum, I noticed that one probable thing could be connection problems, or EPROM problems. So, I checked all wire connections, and looked for cold solder joint in a microscope. Everything seems to be ok. Then I decided to record a new eprom with the V 4.0. As things did´n change, I changed the CCC for another used one.
Now, Checksum error=   (no address) appears in the display.
By the way, every time I switch on the jukebox, I need to touch the connector in the display to get it on.
When I disconnect the flat cable that goes to the CD Pro CD player, the error disappears. I only need to disconnect the four pin part of the flat cable with the black strip - the part that goes to the front of the CD player.
I´m not sure about the model of CD 100 that I have, nor the power supply that have my jukebox; looks like a CD 100B Rowe system with a CD4 CD player was updated to a CD Pro model. And one connection in the mechanism board looks wrong, because somebody uses a black and white cable in two positions. In the conversion sheet, it states black/white cable and another is white/black cable, and in my jukebox both cables are joined together.
I´m apologize for my english and for the length of this post. But I think I need to Know which system I have prior to get manuals and dive in this completely new world of electronics and connections that must conclude enjoying "The dark side of the moon"  with a single malt in my hand.
Thank you in advance!

That machine sure got a long way from home, they were made in Torrance Ca, if I am not mistaken.... A manual is going to be your go to, but If  A guess was to be had Id look for burnt pins on the connectors, a bad ground will cause that, Then Id start looking at transistors, beings how it acted up after it got warm.

Trying to know how my frankenstein was build, I think I have the following system:
Antique apparatus CD4 SN 15801
Build with the ROWE CD 100 System (probably CD 100E) with CDM4 CD player
An then upgraded to

CD Pro (but the driver seems to be of CDPro2, with the SAA7324 chip)
    Mechanism Mechanical control  61086202
    CCC 40832220
No upgade in the power system (60935703)
I am looking for the schematic and or a manual that covers the Rowe CDM-12 Mechanism control computer and CCC, because I think the wires are not in the right position, specially I´m not sure because I have two documents that consider the cd4 to cdm 12 upgrade, and they are not consistent.
Thank you!
