Hi everyone,
Does anyone else have problems with their 60 in 1 losing high scores? Like you usually do when you get a high score, you set the name and that stays on the board (Top 5 or so) until someone bumps you down with a higher score. Well we put our high scores but when we turn the machine off and then on again in the morning, the names next to the highest scores have reverted back to default. The actual scores remain but with the default names for example, in Galaga, one of the scores reverts to LEE. So instead of being "JOH 100,250" it changes to "LEE 100,250".
Can anyone help? To me it looks like a board issue. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
John

I believe that is just the way the 60 in 1 boards all work -- the older ones did not support saving high scores and the rest now only save the score not the initials -- If you want to keep track of who has the high score you might want to build a high score board (either dry erase or chalkboard) Or you could do a digital scoreboard like Yotsuya's if you have a spare monitor and old computer sitting around ( http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,140635.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,140635.0.html) )

Thanks JD,
Suits me as I'm not the one with the highest score (Galaga competitions), my wife is, hehe. On a serious note I'm hoping for a new version that may fix these issues.

You get what you pay for with that board. If you want save score functionality, you'll either need to switch to MAME or pony up for an ArcadeSD board.
-
AFAIK, all XX-in-1 boards lose the high scores when powered off.
I've got a 400-in-1 and a 1000-in-1 that both lose scores.

That was going to be my next question Sarver Systems, whether the other boards work better with high scores. Yotsua not sure what an ArcadeSD board is yet but am about to look it up.
Thanks.

This looks like the JAMMA harness would plug straight in. Do you buy the board and put ROMS on the SD card like you would with a PC MAME setup? Is that all you need? Just the board? I read info there but still not quite sure on those questions

From the Manual : ( http://www.gamma-arcade.com/ArcadeSD/ArcadeSD.pdf (http://www.gamma-arcade.com/ArcadeSD/ArcadeSD.pdf) )
ArcadeSD™ Manual
New Features!
•
Supports up to 2 Gigabyte SD Card capacity for hundreds of games
•
Currently supports 70+ vertical and 40+ horizontal games
And :
Q: Can I just add ROMs to the SD card to play the games?
A: No, there are too many different rom sets with different filenames out
there to make this feasible. Using the PC setup app (“ArcadeSD.exe” - the
same app to change cabinet and game settings) to search your ROM directory and
zip files, to locate all the necessary files for a particular game. (These
are generally the same files used for MAME and other emulators). Once the
files for a game have been located and verified, they are stored as a single
compressed file on the SD card.
So I think it only works on certain games that have been programmed into the firmware (and they may or may not include more games as time passes) for it and then you have to track down the proper set of roms that it was designed to work with - SO it is not like a Mame setup but more like a subset of MAME that has certain games setup like the 60 in 1 etc. but without the Roms included in order to keep it legal to sell since they are not including the roms (but that means more work is placed on the end user to track down the correct versions of the roms so that they will work with it.

There is a site that maintains an up to date rom collection packaged up for the phoenix arcadeSD. I'd post it here, but that would be a link to roms which is against site rules.
good day.

That makes it a bit easier then !!

Thanks guys,
I might stick with what I have. Maybe the next project might have an arcadeSD card.

Guys I had to bring this up and ask your opinion. Below is a list of features for the 60 in 1 I bought from the specific website:
Supports CGA and VGA monitors
Supports 2 player cocktail or upright cabinets with vertically mounted monitors
Plug it and play on any vertically mounted JAMMA
Use for freeplay or coin op options
User-friendly game selection screen
Each game is fully customizable (Difficulty, Game Speed, Number of Lives, etc)
Enable / disable specific games
Supports 2 Trackball and/or Joystick Controls
Each game has its original dipswitches
Ability to save 'High Score', even after the power is turned off!
Uses standard arcade power supply or AT PC power supply (with standard 4-pin molex connector, the same used for hard & cd drives)
Can be used with 4 or 8 way joystick. It is recommended to use a switching joystick to enhance game play.
So one would expect to save the high scores after the unit turns off, as stated in the description right? Question is, should it save all "top 5" scores or just THE highest score.
Should I be sending the card back if it doesn't do what it says in description?
Thanks
John

No, it DOES save scores. It just doesn't save your initials.
Again, you get what you pay for. If "I" were the seller, I wouldn't take it back.
Also, too, remember a lot of it is game-dependent. Some games, like Astro Blaster, don't save high scores at all, even in MAME.
-
OK cool.
There is def a problem with it then because all scores got completely wiped apart from highest score, and it froze on me last night, and the cab inside was as cool as a cucumber. I have emailed supplier.
Thanks

A client of mine has a 60-in-1 and I saw one of the dip switches was for the auto-save feature. Might want to recheck your board to confirm.
-
Was that on the physical dip switch or the software dip switches in the setup?
-
Physical.
-
Yeah it's all setup properly. Physical DIP switch has "Enable high scores" ON
It's all good. Gavin from DIY Arcade is sending me out a new board and I will send mine back after I get the new one. I'm impressed
-
My 60 in 1 had a defective bank of dip switches. Buzz it out with a DMM next time.
