So i downloaded romlister build 029. but when i go to set it up as i have in the past the browse button is not working in the menu for me to pick my XML or mame.exe. only buttons that work are rom scan and romdir2xml. both of those will bring up the folder browse window. I love rom lister used it before even made my own search string for it. but now it not working. on widows 7 tried running as admin. any one else have any issue with this build or just me.

I'm definitely not having that problem.
I just downloaded it off the website, opened the setting+tools menu and clicked on every browse button in there. Each one opened a browse window.
I have used that very same build on a windows 7 (64bit) machine and it worked as expected.
You can certainly go back and see if other builds work for you. Just change the download URL to step backwards:
http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/ROMLister_029.zip (http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/ROMLister_029.zip)
http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/ROMLister_028.zip (http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/ROMLister_028.zip)
http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/ROMLister_027.zip (http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/ROMLister_027.zip)
etc...
if you can find one that does work compared to one that doesn't, that'll give me a lead on what to look into, but I don't have a good feeling that any of them are going to work for you for whatever reason that it isn't currently working.

whew.
glad it's working somewhere for you. not so much that i'm happy you can move forward now, but happy that I don't have to debug something like that cuz i don't have a clue where to even begin! hehehe.

You and me both. this same hardware used it before so it has to be in the OS somewhere that the issue lies. Shame last night while working on setting up the software for the arcade i ended up deleting my roms to find out i didnt have a back up. now i have to go through them manuelly cause i cant get rom lister to work on this pc. im gonna keep going back in versions see if one works on my main pc

Found out it wasn't romlister it was windows it self. which I thought as much when in other programs I couldn't browse for files. reinstall of OS fixed issue.
