Fake gets a bad rap.
A mate of mine got me a fake Rolex from Macau for $10. At the time, I thought he paid too much but it outlasted all my other watches easily.
Fake Sony MemoryStick is also going strong 7 years later as is the fake XD card from 8 years or so ago.

My two genuine fake cents.

Honestly it does.  The only time you need to watch out for fake stuff is when they try to charge as much as the real stuff.  I'm all about the Chinese knock-off stuff from sites like DX.com.  Lots of times they are just as good as the original and even if they turn out to be crap, you paid pennies on the dollar.

I've been thinking of getting a knock-off Chinese flash-cart for my snes.   Sure I'm not supporting the original developer, but I would be glad to do that if they didn't over-charge so much.

Ooohhh.... They have those?? I haven't paid attention to that scene since one of the Seiken Densetsu's was fan translated into English. It'd be nice to dump that particular ROM into a cart and play it.

Yeah but don't get your hopes up, they aren't super great.

There's one called the UFO 8 Pro, it's super cheap (like 40-60 dollars cheap) but it's save state support is kind of iffy and it doesn't support special chips unless you have a game with the special chip plugged into the top of it.  Also it only displays old, 8.3 filenames.  It does a lot of cool stuff though like cart dumping, save transfers to and from carts and game genie codes.

Then there's the super ever drive china ver.  It's a flat out knockoff of the super ever drive.  This one is a bit harder to find, but you can typically save 30-40 bucks.  People seem to think it has a better interface and for the most part I agree, but it's feature light compared to the other one and I don't think there's any way to play special-chip-dependent games like star fox 2 on it.

I'm torn between those two.

My 8 and 16 bit collections are really light because, as you know, back in the day we rented games.  I was thinking a flash cart would be a good excuse to build up my collection.  Since I need at least one game per special chip I could start that way.

In contrast the "official" flash carts START at 80 dollars and that's a pcb with no case that you have to cannibalize a cart to steal chips from.  The "good" flash cart is 200+ dollars, which is ridiculous.  I could buy most of the games I want at eBay retail prices and still come out spending less money.

Here's a couple of the everdrive clones on alied express:

Those are pretty good, you are saving around 30 bucks each.  There are other ones on there, but honestly you won't be saving any money.

Here is what bothers me on flash cart pricing though.  Ok the snes had like 2 dozen custom chips so I understand why it's so convoluted and why a flash cart could potentially be expensive.  The NES, Genesis and ect though.... yeah there was basically a singular design... so why are the carts 100+ dollars?  Heck the turbografx card often retails for around 100 bucks and I know for a fact that even back then dirt-cheap tech was used to make those tiny hucards.
