Title: Using Mala without mame?
Post by: eds1275 on August 21, 2014, 04:28:01 am
My next project is going to be for console emulation without Mame. I love Mala and know it well. But can I use it without mame? Or could I set it up with mame and then hide the mame list?

If only running one other emulator, then just don't map a button to switch emulators.

If one of the other emulators only has a few games, you may be able to use the MAME menu for something else by modifying the xml and pointing Mala at a batch file instead of mame.exe (the path will have to be hand typed into Mala, as it only allows you to click on an exe, but will allow you to type anything)

Yeah, I used Mala for my SNES console. I just threw in a copy of mame, had it point to it, then didn't add it to the menu setup. I think I might have needed to use Mala Tree to keep it out.

Of course, afterwards, I did realize there were a handful of arcade games that make good console games as well. Stuff like Gauntlet where multiple players can just sit and play for a long time, or fighters like Mortal Kombat. So in my final version of my console setup, I have like 40 mame games available as well.
