Here's the situation. I have a 1Ghz PIII processor on a Abit VP6 motherboard. It ran fine for the last 2-3 years. Out of the blue it started having random lockups that became more frequent.
Specs.
PIII 1 Ghz processor
Abit VP6 motherboard
Matrox G450 Dual Head Card
Windows XP
512 MB Ram
Mame32
So far I've swapped out everything but the motherboard and processor with no success. If I install Windows 2000 the lockups also occur. I installed Windows 98 and the system is stable. However now I can't get the Dual Head card to display the games on the TV. Certain games such as Tapper and Timber show on the TV no problem. As soon as I pick a newer game the graphic on the screen freezes when it loads.
So.... I could use any suggestions on why the computer locks up under XP and 2k and not Win98 or on how to get better video performance out of Win98 with this card.

Pull the motherboard and vid card. Inspect the boards for swollen capacitors. I had this happen to me, and I seem to remember your board might have similar problems.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to check that when I get home. Have you ever replaced the capasitors yourself? I found a couple webpages on the subject. The VP6 does have that problem. Guess I might be looking for a new motherboard for Christmas. Doh :'( Looks like my Controller stash just got spent on something else...

FYI... If anyone has the Abit VP6 board and is having problems Abit will accept a RMA for that problem. I just got off the phone with their RMA department and it looks like it will only cost me shipping and handling and two weeks with my gaming PC.
