Hey,
I have a Cruis'n World Cab, with a Wells Garner U5000 25" chassis. The board is blown and I need some ideas of what I can do to fix / replace it??
Is it worth trying to fix the board?
Replace with a new/used chassis? What can I use?
Replace with LCD? What can I use?
Thanks in advance,
Jay

You'll probably need these (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wells-Gardner-U5000-Cap-Kit-Get-Well-Kit-for-Monitor-Repair-/360717051780?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53fc696784 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wells-Gardner-U5000-Cap-Kit-Get-Well-Kit-for-Monitor-Repair-/360717051780?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53fc696784)) and a Youtube tutorial

Thx for the reply.
This board has had a cap kit done on it sometime in it's life, the issue that i'm seeing...well is nothing, no video, but a steady tick..tick..tick...etc... from the board on power up, the rest of the cabinet seems to work fine.

Did you replace the flyback?
THat boards looks pristine to me. I wouldnt throw it away in a million years, unless you see obvious signs of burning, or tons of lifted traces.
Can you take a pic of the back of the board?

I re-flowed any connections that looked like they could be a problem, cold joint etc... still no joy.
Found the service manual :
"In the event of excessive current demand from the main B+ rail, the switcher is designed to shut-down its output............blah blah blah.......Periodically, the switcher attempts to restart. If the fault persists, it will once again shut itself down. This condition can be heard as a faint "ticking" within the switching supply."
Sounds like the issue, but what could cause "excessive current demand on the B+ rail"??
Also another "U5000 Troubleshooting Guide"
SYMPTOM: NO PICTURE/ VIDEO COMMENT: TICKING SOUND CAUSE: IC U500, Q501,C116, ICU101, CRT
These components are all on the neck-board, could a one of these bad components be the issue??

that board from what i can see has had 1 of the >3< service kit's put in it >vertictial<..
what u might want to look at >IS< the vert ic,it will pull down the b+ to tick tick stage..
in our monitor fourm's u find a boat load of info on these..inculding a bad
diode/resistor combo on the lower b+ side..22volt to 12volt
go look there before giving up..that board just look's to good

The "tick tick tick" is also an indication of a blown horizontal output transistor. Replace the HOT and I bet you'll be back in business.

I appreciate the responses! I'll see what I can accomplish this weekend and let you know the results.

Okay, finally got some time to get parts and work on this, replaced the H.O.T. (Q704) and 3 other transistors (Q703,705 & Q708) from the "Horizontal Output Update" Service Kit.....No Joy!!! still tick...tick...tick.....
Need to do some research on the Vertical IC, to find out what circuit and parts are included in that.
Anything else I can look at or advice?
Thx, Jay

E-mail me if you do not get the attachment?

I hate threads that just die, so here is a final update. Bought a CGA->VGA converter and went LCD with it, couldn't put anymore time into troubleshooting the board. Looks sweet on a LCD.
