The price point honestly isn't too bad on that little guy.
Hmmm, doesn't come with the RPi... Still, not a bad deal.
-
I was just joking with the graphic, but my eyes won't let me enjoy such a small device. I guess if you really want a micro-cab, it's a good deal, I guess. :dunno

What do you mean? I was admiring the mad Paint skills.
-
It doesn't even come with the Raspi???
It does give me the idea of a similar kit for full size cabs. Buttons, connections, etc...all sold together. Would be cool.
-
Cool piece of engineering and a cute desk ornament, but seems far less practical than a cheap Android phone and bluetooth gamepad dock. Looks like a serious pain to assemble as well, thanks to the "captive nut" design, which I have never been a fan of.
-
To be honest...I think it's neat in a "throw some cash and make something cool" kinda way...but the practical aspects kinda weigh on it.
-
Just saw the extended video of it in action and I noticed that the sounds are distorted on Ms. Pacman. Seems like the Raspberry Pi is struggling to keep up. Once I saw that I instantly thought to myself, an Android would be better suited (as RandyT pointed out). But then I thought, why not just buy a cheaper iCade?

I have an RPI.
It can handle marvel vs capcom.
that said, i can barely text with my mitts.
no way i could comfortably use such a device.

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if somebody put one in a non-working Coleco mini arcade.

Yeah, now I've got a project for my Pi.
I notice it doesn't come with any thing to rotate the screen though. :)

Just a side note on RPIs.
They now have the B+ which has 4 USB ports, an extra 14 GPIO pins and a few other extras.
It looks like they dropped the composite out though.

It still has composite.
They are now using one of those jacks with combined audio & video that you see on portable DVD players & standard def video cameras.

Oh, ok.
I didn't even think of that. Duh.
Thanks

Under-score non-working. While they won't net you a rent/mortgage payment or anything, they are semi-valuable to collectors. I wouldn't go destroying one.
-
I'm with Dave. The playfield area isn't a neat 16x9 anyway. There'd be a lot of hacking going on.

I wouldn't destroy a working one either! Interestingly enough, Coleco is planning on making new versions of the mini arcade soon (https://twitter.com/ColecoVision_/status/495400119982768128).

C'mon, one of those Colecos would be bangin with full 4-player cp, a top mounted trackball (plate showing) and marble contact paper.

You forgot the keyboard drawer and LCD marquee, bro.

Can we stick a spinner on the front of it too?

Can we stick a spinner on the front of it too?
Only if it's right at crotch level. Don't forget the pedals so you can play Street Fighter!

The entire cab's at crotch level.

But lets do it tastefully....
Make sure player 3 and 4 joysticks are properly oriented.
We don't want this thing to look cheesey.
