Hi everyone!
Scored an old arcade cabinet that has some issues, the crt monitor is in great shape, my plans for it are to replace the origional board with a raspberry pi and make a MAME cabinet.
I was thinking, instead of replacing the monitor with a flat screen monitor that i have, why not try to use the crt monitor?
Does anyone know of a way to have the raspberry pi connected to a crt monitor?

is the monitor in there a computer monitor or an arcade monitor?
I dont know of a way to have the pi output to 15Hz , not saying its not possible, just that I dont know how to do it.

stock arcade monitor! The cabinet is complete with power supply, coin mechanisms etc, i wanted to use as much as i can, aside from changing the control pannel.
I'll see what i can dig up on the net!

my point was to point the op to the way...
i use a slightly dif board by the same company..
which where the link i posted was the olny 1's to have them from a dist. in !!canada!!..

It's got composite out. They're probably fairly rare these days, but all the laser disc games had Composite -> CGA converters in them. I've got one in the parts pile that came out of a Mach 3. You cannot have mine.

RPi's don't have VGA out. They have a composite out and an HDMI. I've seen some folks use adapters to do:
HDMI -> VGA -> CGA
But that's ugly. I know very little about arcade monitors, but could you use a cheap HDMI to component cable (like $5-$10) and tap those outputs to the inputs of an arcade monitor?

comp out is correct,same as base line audio.
u can also order a andorid board with hdmi out,which hook's right on top of the pi..
then up/down convert
or u can use the on board codec if u like coding ?
but as was pointed out it can get ugly.

it dose take some thought to pull it off clean like.
and yes u can do the cheap out way..>hdmi< ,just plan it through
ie: play around a byte to see what u want to do

VGA is a display standard , a D-Sub is the connector. I get the confusion, its common, but Im just clarifying my post.

Please note that in some cases it may extract the files into a folder, if this is the case then please copy across the files from inside the folder rather than the folder itself.
5. Insert the SD card into your Pi and connect the power supply.
Your Pi will now boot into NOOBS and should display a list of operating systems that you can choose to install.
If your display remains blank, you should select the correct output mode for your display by pressing one of the following number keys on your keyboard:
1. HDMI mode - this is the default display mode.
2. HDMI safe mode - select this mode if you are using the HDMI connector and cannot see anything on screen when the Pi has booted.
3. Composite PAL mode - select either this mode or composite NTSC mode if you are using the composite RCA video connector.
4. Composite NTSC mode

yes that is the write up that led me to the board i spoke of..
and as i am in canada and have a built hate for fleabay..
i wanted an in country suppiler..
but if u look at it total cost for convert is about $45.00,
there price was 22.00lb's >english< which is 44.00 . cdn
or just there as of...

You can run SD (480i or even 240p) over HDMI, assuming the video controller on the Pi is capable of such low pixel clocks. You'll need an RGB DAC to hook it up to the monitor, and maybe a video amp, since most of the DACs will output broadcast industry-standard 0.7Vpp, not the ~3Vpp that arcade monitors typically want. The somewhat-popular "HD Fury" may be capable of low res, but check. This is of course trivial to slap together at the component level, but the interconnect is such that a PCB is needed, so an off-the-shelf solution is probably desired...

below that is a switching power-suppy...nice score..
that is a normal res.kv74-xx series monitor..it pull's straight up and out..
u do need a hand there..ring the bell..
u remove the complete sliding panel,power-supply and board at 1 pull.ie the full thing will
slide out..we will be using that power supply,and "back-board" again,we will just remove the main game board,
just make sure every thing is un-plugged..no fear's there molex..can olny but fit 1 way back in..
reason we want the back board is to a mount everything u will be hooking in..
ipac4=usb for pi.(b) perfect fit also will work with pi(a)
the transformer :board: is a complete isolation transformer..we will be using it also..
that is an early >dynamo/daymco< cab..nice score:):)
if the monitor work's?, which we can and will test in short order
u just saved a boat load of $$$$..
also we will reuse 99% of the unit >game-board-aside<
that cabinet should support veritical >up-right< display...
for now we will use a video output of the pie to get it going..
so a spare tv with >hdmi and or video in< will do just fine as we do the rest....

the comp to rgb converter will
up the level to ttl..
the machine's old power transformer
would u please up-load a few pic'ss of it,i need to find the iso-side winding's..
i expect it is a multitap main's in ie:117vac and or 220 vac common for the day..
but that switcher should lead us the way if it was tied into the iso side of the power trans ?

Im 99% sure that green wire with the yellow stripe shouldnt be on the ground terminal, it should be on the FG terminal

ya that's a multi confiq trans..
ie: 120-240 depending on which way u set the >input< to the molex plug..
if u have the name of the cab i will chase down the manual for u..to set it right.
and as it all plug's in
rule a apply's
un-plug from a/c then just un-plug the molex's
then un-screw the full steel pan..but just get me the name i will chase it down for u

also you will need to power that monitor through that transformer (or another isolation transformer) to isolate from the wall AC it otherwise it will go poof!

shawn i planted a 1-1 on his old power spply...
yes the old 1 has a 1-1 iso built in >willmans game<
but that aside it is up and running >monitor<..
the op took the handy avice and turned up the screen control to see a screen
we ha it work's..nice score for a 25"
next is the converter...

waldo what part of the plug did u miss ?
if wired up right ? them running 15khz u may need to tweek

Hi everyone, so a bunch of parts finally showed up so im ready to move on with the project!
I have the manual for the origional arcade cabinet / monitor, i would like to scan the wiring diagram and ask you all a few more questions....for right now, the harness that connects to the crt monitor that i will need to cut into... is that the "jamma harness" ? Just want to know which diagrams to scan... i might just scan them all and post them anyways!

Yes, the video signal wires are in the jamma harness.
What you are looking for are the RED, GREEN, BLUE, SYNC and GND wires/pins.

the jamma harness is a "universal" type of card edge connector used to connect the user controls, video, sound, and power in most arcade games.
it has a standard pinout so that if the operator wishes to change the game, it's just a matter of removing the game board and switching it for another.
lots of manufacturers diverge from the "standard" (hence the quotes around it) but rudimentarily, it's compatible with a wide variety of games.
basically you just want to take a look at that connector and find the video (R,G,B,ground,sync) and wire them to your video interface of your device.
keep in mind there are several different monitors out there, all with different video needs. it appears you have a k7000 monitor there which will only accept a 15k standard resolution signal. your device will need to output a video signal accordingly or you risk damaging it by overdriving it. You may also require a video signal booster, depending on how you go about hooking this up to your device.
