Hi everybody,
has anybody of you had problems with the cropping of MAME bezels before?
I have attached a few quickly drawn sketches to show you what I mean.
One is the situation I have when I choose to view the full bezel artwork. That means black bars on the bottom and top of my 16:10 monitor. Urgh.
Two is the image I get when using the crop-option in MAME. The game screen is then filling the screen from top to bottom, but the section of the bezel artwork there is cropped / not visible.
Three is the style I am trying to achieve: I would rather lose a bit of the left and right portion of the bezel artwork and keep the sections on the top and bottom of the screen. I am dead sure that this was the kind of way it looked the day before. I must have done something in the meantime that interfered with this. :dunno
I am using HyperLaunch by the way. I have tried both enabling and disabling the bezel option in the general as well as in the dedicated MAME settings, but no luck.
I have also launched MAME without HyperLaunch to see if that sorts out the problem. No. It seems to be a MAME specific thing.
Could it be the the HyperLaunch artwork is different from the MAME bezel artwork and matches my screen better / leads to a behavior as in sketch three?

I just make my own widescreen bezels, and they work perfectly.
Eg:

Yeah, but those look rather like in example two above, which is not exactly what I am trying to achieve (had achieved already!?).
Also, I'd rather use the ressources that are already there (emuMovies, MAME artwork). Do you really make them lot of games yourself?

Yeah i wish mame had had a crop to artwork horizontal / vertical instead of just to game screen. I'm not using a widescreen monitor but it still bugs me.
You might be able to tweak the layout files a bit to tweak padding etc, but it does take ages and you have to do each game...

Yeah, doing that individually for each game is nowhere near making sense - at least not if there's only me wanting that.
And even when it would be a team effort for a larger audience, there's got to be a more elegant and efficient way of handling this.
It just bugs me that I am convinced that I had my setup up and running with mode "three" (see pics above) until recently. :dunno

It's not like there are that many good games. There are 150 games in the history of gaming that are even worth playing today. Sure, it took time, but it isn't insurmountable.

Well, one could possibly batch crop the artwort files, so that they fit a 16:10 screen...

Great news everybody!
I have now configured MAME and HyperSpin according to this post:
http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?27464-MAME-Bezel-Priority-Query&p=261774&viewfull=1#post261774 (http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?27464-MAME-Bezel-Priority-Query&p=261774&viewfull=1#post261774)
Now it's black screen only for me for most MAME games until I manually change the video setting in the MAME in-game menu. :applaud:

Everybody who's facing a similar problem and is using Hyperspin should head here (http://"http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?34755-MAME-Artwork-Bezel-Project")!
