Title: 3 screen sim
Post by: vandale on August 04, 2014, 07:10:55 am
Hi all, anybody done a 3 screen sim racer, something like iracing with 3 24inch HD panels, setup with correct dimensions for a 180 degree viewing angle etc?

Over the past few months I have scratched together a PC with dual 9800gtx cards and 3 24inch Dell panels. Should be good enough for DX10 racers. Plan is to make a custom mount and place them on a 50 inch Daytona delux cab less the 50 inch screen.

Something like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rri19PqJ3qU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rri19PqJ3qU)

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Gene

Hm... Don't know if that counts, but I did a 3-screen Buggy Boy once ^^

Sounds good to me.  Some of the emulators can even be set up to work with it, including those that run Daytona and Daytona 2.

Outrun 2006 will also do three screens.  Your desktop has to be setup to where all three are individual monitors though.

r-pod mark 2.5

At first blush this seems a great idea. OTOH, won't Occulus Rift negate all of this?

Not if you actually want to be able to see your buttons, shifter, and wheel.  OR is pointless until they figure out how to integrate it with augmented reality.  Also, I don't see the retail version being released anytime soon.  News about the device has pretty much fallen off since the facebook acquisition.

So cool, but funny at the same time.

Not sure whats funny about it?

TX-1  is another great racing classic that works great on 3 monitors.    Its superior in gameplay to Pole Position...
and although the sounds are not as nice as Pole Position, it does have 4 speaker surround sound.

There are other 3 screen games racers, as well as shooters.

Theres a 2 screen Darius,  as well as a 3 screen Darius,  Ninja Warriors,  Race Drivin Panorama (playable?),   Ferrari F355 Challenge ,   X-Men 6-Player version,  and some Nintendo -vs- Arcade games.. like Punchout (Vertical Orientation)

There also were some Dual Monitor games that used a Half Silvered mirror - So that the graphics were in Stereoscopic 3D.

I built mine a few years back, I havn't got many videos showing it mind.

This is a small clip of the dolphin emulator running outrun on my cabinet. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmhFBpbDTg4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmhFBpbDTg4)

I have another video but it was recorded on a digital camera with video mode, so the aspect ratio looks real weird (squashed) and I had the monitors originally pointed in quite far and i found them better stretched out further
