Title: VGA to SCART, getting voltage
Post by: Serpent on December 09, 2003, 04:24:45 pm
I need that my SCART TV automatically switches to aux1 when it receives input from my ArcadeVGA. Somebody told me that I need to take 9v or maybe 12v to pin 8 on the SCART connector. One possibility would be to get 9v from pin 9 on the VGA connector. I've been testing my connector and it seems than non of the cables that remain unconnected correspond to pin 9 in the vga connector. Actually, I've seen diagrams on the vga connectors and they say no-connect for pin 9, so I guess this pin is not connected at all, so there's not any cable from pin 9 on the vga connector that goes along the cable to the other end. Right? Then, should I discard the possibility of getting 5v through the cable? Considering the other alternative, getting 12v from the cpu connector, what do I have to connect exactly? Just one cable from the yellow connector to pin 8 in the scart? Will I need any other cable? I think this site has the information but I'm totally new to electronics, so I can't figure out what I have to do. http://www.idiots.org.uk/vga_rgb_scart/index.html

I'm not sure where you are getting this idea that you need 9v or 12v...from what I've herd, you need 5v on pin 16...here is an example of hacking the Dreamcast AV output to a scart monitor:

The optional resistor to pin 8 is for widescreen.  The page you mentioned pretty much says the same tihng about 5v to pin 16.

I don't own a scart tv (I'm in the US) so I can't test this out, but thats just what I've read.  Good luck.

This is exactly right. Just one single wire from the yellow contact on a disk power connector to pin 8 will do it. You don't need ground as this is already done through the SCART connector.
