Title: Demonoid is back
Post by: hypernova on July 16, 2014, 09:10:54 pm
Got an email from the new site today.  Demonoid looks to be back.  www.demonoid.ph (http://www.demonoid.ph) is the new address.  Double checked to see if it was just a phishing site by inputting a junk login, and all looks to be good.  This has been in the works for a few months, but I wanted to be sure it was legit.

yeah, i rolled up on them a while back. they called themselves "D2" at www.D2.vu (http://www.D2.vu) all the old login info was migrated to the new site. D2 shut down end of march about 4 months ago and the new demonoid.ph site came up (link to the new site from D2)

I'll stick with my fantastic private tracker thanks.

I had like a 9 to 1 ratio at demonoid, with like 4 TBs upped. They got enough bandwidth and disk space out of me.

Ratios are ridiculous if you understand that many cable providers severely cripple upload speeds, meaning that file that took you 1 minute to download might take 1 hour or more to seed.

I avoid any site that uses ratios.

Hell at this point you can just type "file you are searching for + torrent" in google and a site with the file will pop up.  Demonoid is an outdated concept.

you are right, but you still have to be good enough to know which links on google are legit. Kickass is a pretty good resource though....no login, but still a great pool of torrents. 1st place I check.

Not too impressed with their new site --- they have annoying popup ads that play loud sounds and then if you try to click on the ad to lower the volume it brings up a new tab saying you selected to install a program and tries to force install apps rather than having an actual volume selection. and then have other ads pop up saying your flash drivers are out of date trying to get you to install another app.

Won't be using them as there are other sites out there with more above board style of operating.

Here's a screen of the site after just pressing to go to torrents :

I run AdBlock Plus, so I didn't get anything.  If that's true, that sucks.

I've been hitting kickass.to lately as well, along with some IPT.

and you know, as much bad press as it gets pirate bay is still pretty reliable, so long as you actually look at the seed count and read about what you are downloading.

But kickass is my fav as well.

Seems I had somehow disabled ABP  :banghead: -- which is why all those things were popping up so at least one good thing came out of visiting their website - ABP is turned back on  :applaud: and it does a good job of blocking all of them (still don't like knowing they are using those methods though !

I just disabled ABP, but when visiting the page, I still didn't get anything.  This may be due to my Buffalo DD-WRT router also blocking things, however.  (Yup, I have two bouncers keeping the internet riffraff out of my house.)

While this is true does it actually matter?  It's not like you're sitting there turning a crank.  Walk away and let it upload however fast it feels like uploading.

Yeah it does, because my isp, like most, cripples your download speed while you are uploading.  Also you know, if the file is questionable you don't exactly want your computer up seeding it for hours on end, even with the proper precautions in place.

Perhaps but if you think about it -- Let's say I download the 0.151 Rom set on my 18 Mbps down 1.5Mbps upload Uverse connection in order to upload a 100% ratio assuming both get full speed would take about 5 hours to download and 64 hours to upload - and that is if the upload is running at the full capacity of my connection meaning I can not do anything else on the connection (upload or download (since downloading also uses upload capacity to communicate with the peers)) - So if I actually want to use the internet while uploading I have to limit my upload torrent speed to about half of capacity which means leaving it running continuously for 128 hours to account for a single 5 hour download or approx. 1 full 24 hour period for every 1 hour of downloading anything !! (making it difficult to keep a decent ratio)

Not everyone is throttled on download when uploading.  Yeah, my upload isn't as fast as my download, but my download is not affected in any perceivable way when uploading.  I keep my stuff open pretty much all the time and we have four internet users here.  Prime, Youtube, etc all work just fine while uploads are going on.

In this thread - people bragging about stealing copyrighted works.

Don't you dare sell a 60 in 1, though.

I know right!

in all fairness, the UL/DL ratio on demonoid doesn't matter, it's just for shits and giggles.

Quote
The ratio system is purely statistical and somewhat innacurate for the ones with shared or dynamic ips. Besides what other users may think of you for not sharing, there is no punishment for having a low ratio.

i am/have been part of trackers in the past that have UL/DL ratio quotas, but they are pretty reasonable (like 50:1) upload a megabyte download 50. worst ive seen is 1:2 (must seed double what you've downloaded and the system holds out on a few packets till you've seeded to keep you from running) but that is just for the new people, and just for first 30 days (to get rid of hit and runs) and then changes to 8:1.
