Title: X-arcade trackball makes grindy noise out of the box
Post by: knightrdrx on July 10, 2014, 07:40:52 pm
Just bought one and it is noisy compared to the youtube videos i see of people using it.  Is this normal before I contact customer service?

Trackballs tend to take a week or so for the lube in the bearings to work in.  Use the hell out of it for a couple days and see if it lessens.  If not, you might have a bad unit, send it back.

You're right..i used it a bunch and it seems okay now.  Another thing...maybe better to stop it from spinning extra by putting my hand down on it ..say after i roll a ball in bowling..just to preserve it? or it doesn't really matter.

I had the same experience with the x-arcade, and it got a little better but still felt really "bumpy".. as if the rollers were gunked up.. If I hadn't sold it so quickly, I would have pulled it apart to clean it because it really felt like it needed it.

After a week with my ultimarc trackball it was smooth as silk.

When I went left to right, the cursor would stop sometimes.  any direction and it felt bumpy.. that would signal to me that the rollers have some gunk wrapped around them, so even though it was brand new, it "felt" like it was dirty and needed cleaning.  I just wasn't impressed.
